The Montgomery County AL Youth Facility is a medium to low-security detention center located at 1111 Air Base Blvd Montgomery, AL that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.
The purpose of this organization is to facilitate the care, protection, and discipline of children who come within the jurisdiction of the juvenile court, while acknowledging the responsibility of the juvenile court to preserve the public peace and security. And further, integrating the parents and/or legal guardians into the juvenile court process to insure their accountability to and for the child.
The original juvenile detention operation was housed on the third floor of the old courthouse, which is now our County Administration Building and Courthouse Annex. It consisted of four detention rooms and a kitchen area.
On September 24, 1969 the operation was moved into a new Montgomery County Youth Facility on this site. The new facility was and had a detention capacity of 34.Renovation and expansion of the 40,000 square foot Montgomery County Youth Facility increases detention capacity from 34 to 52.
