CDCR – Ishi Conservation (Fire) Camp #18 basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 530-597-2846
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Ishi Conservation Camp #18 located at 30500 Plum Creek Rd in Paynes Creek, CA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Camp History – The Ishi Conservation Camp #18 was opened in April 1961. The Camp is jointly operated by the California Department of Corrections and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF). The Camp’s primary mission is to provide inmate fire crews for fire suppression activities in the Tehama, Glenn, Shasta and Plumas County areas. In addition to fire suppression, inmate hand crews provide a workforce for conservation and community services projects in the local area. The in-camp project is CDF Boxed Meal Shop, which produces boxed, ready to eat meals for firefighters which are distributed throughout the State.
Inmate Programs – College courses are available to all inmates through Coastline College and Feather River College. NA / AA programs are provided by local volunteer groups. Religious programs and bible study programs are provided by local volunteers.
Camp Products – Ready “2” Heat Meals are specifically designed for consumption by firefighting personnel. Ishi Camp is an approved product provider for Emergency Ready “2” Heat Meals and sales are limited to state and local government agencies.
