The Eagle County Detention Facility is a medium-security detention center located at 0885 East Chambers Ave
PO Box 359 Eagle, CO which is operated locally by the Eagle County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Eagle County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Eagle Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Detention Facility is the central holding location for all law enforcement agencies in Eagle County, including local police departments. The facility houses inmates and pre-trial detainees who have been committed to the custody of the sheriff. The staff of the facility is responsible for all booking and classification of inmates, security, medical services and transportation.

The facility is designed to accommodate inmates in minimum, medium and maximum security units and special housing areas, with room for male and female inmates in separate areas. The new addition to the detention facility is a direct supervision, dormitory-style housing unit.

Those in custody who are classified as minimum-security are housed in the direct supervision unit. While they are not free to leave the unit, they are free to move about and participate in a wide range of activities. The two-storey unit includes sleeping areas and a multipurpose room for meetings and recreation. Through the structural design of the facility, staff members are able to supervise inmates effectively. With the direct supervision model, a detention deputy is continually supervising inmates. The deputy works within the "pod" or living area and is in direct control of the inmates. Positive expectation of conduct is evident in the physical design of the facility. Deviation from the expected positive behavior results in progressive disciplinary loss of privileges. Detention facilities that use direct supervision have significantly lower rates of assaults, extortions and lawsuits than the traditional linear style of detention facility management.

Inmates cannot receive incoming telephone calls. Inmates are provided access to telephones to phone citizens and legal counsel. Calls are subject to monitoring or recording, except for privileged communication between attorney and client. Inmates may make collect calls provided recipient is willing to pay the charges. Inmates may also purchase prepaid calling cards.

Anyone may call the Detention Facility at 970-328-8564 and leave a message for an inmate. Messages are passed to inmates at approximately 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. If there is an emergency, please alert staff and message can be passed based on the nature of the emergency.

Work Release Program Application

The purpose of the Work Release Program is to allow non-violent misdemeanor and low-level felony offenders to serve their jail time in a manner that is productive for the offender and the community. In this program, offenders are allowed to leave the jail to go to work for up to 12 hours each day, 5-6 days per week. All time spent away from the jail must be pre-approved based on verification of schedules by the employer. A GPS ankle monitor is used to ensure compliance with program rules at no additional cost. The Work Release Coordination is handled by the Detentions Transport/Extradition Coordinator and they will determine the amount to be paid and a payment schedule will be set up at the time of acceptance into the program. Sentences of less than 30 days will require full payment at the time of acceptance. These fees help to reduce the expense of housing offenders, and ultimately reduce the burden on the taxpayers.

Before you enter into the Work Release Program, you must telephone the Transport/Extradition Coordinator to make an appointment for an interview at 970-328-8574, Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. This interview must occur at least 72 hours prior to the start of your sentence. You may be denied work release if you fail to do this.

Bring your paperwork from the court. The paperwork you bring to your interview must include your mittimus.

You must have been sentenced to at least 10 days to be eligible for work release.

The Jail Administrator retains the discretion to determine whether the inmate will actually be placed in the Work Release Program. However, the judge must approve the ability to apply to the Work Release Program on the mittimus. The Transport/Extradition Coordinator will not place an individual on work release if that person is precluded from doing so by the court, or has certain felonies, history of introduction of contraband or sex assault charges or history.

The Eagle County Work Release Program is a very strict program and requires the stringent criteria be met to remain in the program. Not all applicants are accepted, and it is not automatic. Eagle County Detention Facility – Visitation

Visits are allowed daily between the hours of: 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m./ 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m./ 7:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. All personal visitations will be conducted through the kiosk located in the visitation lobby. The ECDF does not permit personal contact visits. Each visitation is limited to 20 minutes.  Visitors may choose to come in person to the ECDF and will be allowed a 20 minute visit at no charge. If you choose to visit off-site, you will be charged a $0.39 per minute fee. Visitors must create an account at www.inmatecanteen.com to process all visits. 

On-site visits are limited to ( 1 ) 20 minute visit in a 48 hour period. Off-site visits are not limited in the amount of visits allowed, but are limited to 20 minutes per-session.

Attorneys, probation/parole officers, and law enforcement officials are considered professional visitors. These visitors are allowed visits with inmates during any reasonable business hour after presenting proper credentials and identification.
