This facility is for adult inmates.
The Elbert County CO Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 751 Ute Ave Kiowa, CO which is operated locally by the Elbert County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Elbert County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Kiowa Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Mail: There is no limit on the amount of mail Inmates send or receive as long as Inmates have stamped envelopes and paper. Inmates that are indigent are allowed two stamps and two envelopes each week on commissary.

The full legal name of the sender and addressee must appear on the envelope; nicknames will not be accepted. Any mail received without both full names on the envelope will be returned to sender or destroyed if there is no return address. All incoming mail except for properly labeled Legal mail will be opened and scanned; the same is procedure for outgoing mail.

Elbert County Jail – Visitation
All non-professional visits to the Elbert County Jail are non-contact. Visiting hours are Noon to 4:00 PM every Saturday. Inmates are allowed up to 30 minutes a day.
No form fitting, suggestive or revealing clothing will be permitted. All visitors must present current, legible and valid photo identification before being allowed to visit. The ONLY forms of acceptable positive identification are:
• State issued driver’s license or ID cards
• US Military ID
• Passport
Visitors under the age of eighteen will be denied for any inmate charged or convicted of child abuse, child assault, sexual assault on a child, or a felony with a victim classified as a minor. Visitors under the age of eighteen where the above does not apply must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Professional visits: All professional visits are to be scheduled and approved in advance with jail staff.
