The La Plata County Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 742 Turner Dr Durango, CO which is operated locally by the La Plata County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. La Plata County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Durango Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Welcome to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility Web Page. The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office operates the largest detention facility in Southwest Colorado. Operating the newly added 118 bed/ 7 cell block addition in March of 2009, brings the total capacity of the facility to 293. The La Plata County Detention Facility is managed by utilizing the principles of the “Direct Supervision Concept” to ensure the inmates’ critical needs are acquired through compliant behavior.
The Detentions Division houses both males and females who have been arrested on misdemeanor and felony charges by all law enforcement agencies in La Plata County, including the Federal Marshals (USM) and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The inmates housed at the facility include pre-trial and/or sentenced inmates to the La Plata County Jail or the Department of Corrections.
The Detentions Division provides the inmates with counseling, drug and alcohol therapy, educational opportunities and inmate worker programs, including Work Release and a Day Reporting Program.
The Detentions Facility is an important and necessary component of the criminal justice system and La Plata County. We strive to maintain a professional environment while maintaining the highest level of security.
