This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Arkansas Valley Correctional located at 12750 Hwy 96, Lane 13 in Ordway, CO are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility is a mixture of custody levels that houses over 1,000 adult male state inmates. This correctional facility has been operational since 1987 and the CO DOC offers inmates the opportunity to better their lives while institutionalized. By participating in various educational, vocational, and treatment programs inmates can often come out of prison with more knowledge, skills and experience that gives them the best possible chance to reintegrate successfully with society Some of the programs offered at this facility include earning a GED, basic adult education, various computer and information technology courses, welding, and construction skills. Inmates may also work while in prison in the Colorado Correctional Industries creating furniture, web design, DMV information call center, and more.
