This facility is for adult inmates.

The Cherokee County GA Adult Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 498 Chattin Dr Canton, GA which is operated locally by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Cherokee County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Canton Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Cherokee County Adult Detention Center is a 512-bed facility to the house inmates both pre-sentence and sentenced. The primary function of the Adult Detention Center is for the receiving, processing, and, housing of individuals charged with felony and/or misdemeanor criminal violations. Those individuals that are unable to make bond remain in the custody until they appear in court.
The secondary function is the housing of sentenced inmates. Some inmates are sentenced to serve time for misdemeanor offenses (less than 1 year) and remain in the county facility for the duration of their sentence. Inmates that receive a court sentence of more than 1 year are considered inmates of the Georgia Department of Corrections and remain in the county facility until they may be received by a facility of the State of Georgia.
People visiting the Adult Detention Center are not allowed to loiter, smoke or use a cell phone within a hundred feet of the building for security reasons. These rules are posted at all entrances to the facility.

Inmate Accounts and Commissary Services – Under no circumstances may inmates have money in their possession while detained in the facility. Upon admission to the Adult Detention Center, all money in the possession of an inmate will be taken by the booking officer and a receipt will be given to the inmate. This money will be deposited in an account and credited to the inmate. Family and friends can deposit funds into an inmate’s account for commissary purchases, medical services, etc. Money orders are accepted in any amount to deposit towards an inmate’s account. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. Money may also be deposited either online or via direct deposit using the ATM located in the Lobby of the ADC which accepts credit cards, debit cards and cash. Money deposited this way is automatically credited towards the inmate’s account. Upon release from the Adult Detention Center, all funds credited to an inmate’s account will be released to the inmate during normal business hours – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Any further questions regarding inmate commissary accounts, you may contact the Inmate Records Manager at 678-493-4209.

Medical Services – While incarcerated, inmates receive in-house medical, dental, and mental health treatment through the current contracted medical service provider, Southern Correctional Medicine. The direct number for medical inquiries is (678)-493-9550.

GED/Adult Education – The function of the GED/Adult Education Program in the Adult Detention Center is to provide inmates the opportunity to obtain their GED while they are incarcerated. Providing inmates with the opportunity to obtain their GED also helps to make them more marketable in the job force when they return to the community, as well as reducing their likelihood of re-offending due to lack of job opportunities.

Alcoholics Anonymous – The function of the AA program in the Adult Detention Center is to provide inmates with the opportunity to discuss their issues with alcohol use and abuse in a non-judging environment among their peers. This program allows inmates to address the underlying issues that have led them to alcohol use/abuse. This program allows inmates to establish a network for support in the community once they have completed their jail sentences. The AA program also provides the inmates with an outlet to discuss other substance abuse issues they may be facing as well.
