The Effingham County GA Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 130 W 1st St Extension Springfield, GA which is operated locally by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Effingham County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Springfield Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Mission of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Jail Division, is to provide for the safety and security of inmates and staff by maintaining a safe, sanitary, and secure environment. We will accomplish our mission by providing care, custody and control of legally confined persons, and providing ethical and humane treatment to those who are incarcerated.

ECSO Jail Function

The primary function of the ECSO Jail Division is the receiving, processing, and, housing of individuals charged with felony and/or misdemeanor criminal violations. Those individuals that are unable to make bond remain in custody until they appear in court.

The secondary function is the housing of sentenced inmates. Some inmates are sentenced to serve time for misdemeanor offenses (less than 1 year) and remain in the county facility for the duration of their sentence. Inmates that receive a court sentence of more than 1 year are considered inmates of the Georgia Department of Corrections and remain in the county facility until they may be received by a facility of the State of Georgia.

Inmate Mail

For security reasons and the control of contraband, inmates are only authorized to receive post card mail. Exceptions are attorney, courts, or probation communications via mail.

Phone Calls & Voicemail

Only inmates may initiate phone calls. To call you, an inmate simply dials your phone number. When receiving a call, you’ll first hear an announcement from an automated operator; “You are receiving a call from [inmate name], an inmate at Effingham County Jail. Press one (1) to accept.”

If the inmate has no funds in his account, and is calling you for the first time, the call will be free for a brief period of time (often less than a minute). This is to allow the inmate to inform you of where he or she is, and to explain how calls work from this facility. After this short call, the inmate will be placed on hold and you will be presented the opportunity to:

1. Pay (via credit card) to continue the current call.
2. Deposit funds for the inmate to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to make future calls to any number.
3. Deposit funds to your own phone number to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to call your number in the future, but the funds will not be available for calling other numbers.

Voicemail

If you wish to contact an inmate, you can call 1-866-516-0115 and leave them a voicemail (up to 3 minutes), or use one of the other communications methods listed below.

Blocking Future Calls

If you do not wish to receive calls from inmate, simply call 1-866-516-0115 from the phone number that you wish to have blocked. A live operator will help prevent inmates from being able to call that number in the future.

Commissary
Inmates are allowed to maintain a commissary account while incarcerated. This money may be used for purchasing snacks, toiletries, personal hygiene items, etc. Money for an offenders commissary account may be deposited here on the GettingOut site, over the phone with a customer service representative, or at one of the kiosks listed above. If you are paying with a credit card, the GettingOut site is the fastest and most convenient way to deposit funds for an offender.

Effingham County Jail – Visitation

Video Visit in Facility
Visitors may visit using the video stations in the lobby. Two free visits are allowed per week, with additional visits at $7.50 for 30-minutes*. Onsite hours are from 8 am. to 8 pm. Onsite visiting hours are from 8:00 am-8:00 pm every day.

Video Visit from Your Computer

Remote (offsite) video visiting is available to friends, family, and others using a Web browser. Video visits may be conducted from any computer with high-speed Internet, a webcam, microphone, & speakers. There is no limit to the number of remote visits, and they may be scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Remote visits are $9.00 for 30 minutes* and are available from 8 am. to 9 pm.

Free Visits
Each week, two (2) onsite, 30-minute visits are provided to each inmate at no cost. The free visits are given to the first two (2) onsite visitors to visit each inmate each week (Mon. – Sun.). Free visits that are not used do not carry over to the next week. Additional 30-minute onsite visits are available $7.50*. There is no limit on the number of additional paid visits.

Scheduling Visits
To schedule a visit with an inmate, go to www.gettingout.com or use the kiosk in the facility lobby. You will need to login (or register if you haven’t already) before scheduling a visit. Available visiting times may vary throughout the facility, depending on classification and housing unit. Inmates are responsible for communicating their allowed visit times to prospective visitors. Inmates will not be permitted to visit during their lockdown time.

Arrive Early
For all free visits, and all onsite visits, visitors must be present in the jail reception area 5-10 minutes before their scheduled visit. Inmates visit using a video station in their housing unit.

Canceling a Visit
To cancel a visit, log into www.gettingout.com or use the link provided in your confirmation email. Cancellations that are over 24 hours in advance are fully refunded.

Minors
Minors are allowed to visit as long as they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Minors are not permitted to register for visitation.

Rules

• All social visiting is subject to recording and monitoring.
• Inmate visitation is a privilege and may be denied for disciplinary reasons or operational necessity.
• No cell phones, food or drink are allowed in the visiting area.
• No nudity, drug use, threatening language, gang symbols, or other behavior prohibited by the facility is allowed.
