The Lamar County GA Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 121 Roberta Dr Barnesville, GA which is operated locally by the Lamar County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Lamar County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Barnesville Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The function of the Lamar County Jail is to receive, and process people that are taken into custody by various law enforcement agencies within Lamar County. Once a person has been turned over to the jail, they are either given an opportunity to post a bond and be released pending a court hearing or held until the courts dispose of their case.
Once a person is convicted and sentenced to either county time or state time, they are held until their sentence is served in accordance to law or transferred into a state facility. The jail has a staff of 21 sworn jailers. The jail was built in 1992 and has a total bed capacity of 152 beds. Male inmates that are serving a county or city sentence are used in various departments within the county and city to do community service saving the taxpayers hundreds of dollars.
FOOD SERVICES
Three meals are served daily. Each Meal is prepared, transported and served by persons and under conditions approved by the County Health Department. Menus will be certified to contain minimum daily adult requirements.
MEDICAL SERVICES
Health and medical services are provided by medically trained personnel under the authority and direction of a licensed physician. All medications will be prescribed or approved by the licensed facility physician.
COMMISSARY
Inmates will be allowed to purchase approved/permitted items and snacks from Kimble's commissary. Inmates may also purchase prepaid phone time with their funds. All purchases are deducted from the inmate's commissary account, which is maintained by the Detention Center, provided that the inmate has funds in his/her account at the time the order is processed.
If an inmate placed a commissary order and is released or transferred prior to in being received, he/she or a designated family member will have five (5) days to pick up the order. If the order is not picked up within this time frame, it will be destroyed.
All monies in the form of cash, money order, or certified check that an inmate has in their possession when brought into the booking area, will be credited to that inmate's commissary account.
Any person wishing to make a deposit into an inmate's account may do so by visiting the Detention Center to deposit cash into the JailATM kiosk located in the front lobby. You may also use the JailATM link provided above to make deposit's online using your credit or debit card.
Money orders or certified checks may be mailed to the Detention Center, 121 Roberta Dr, Barnesville, GA 30204, and must be made out in the inmate's name. No personal checks will be accepted for deposit into an inmate's account.
NO MONEY WILL BE TRANSFERRED FROM ONE INMATE'S ACCOUNT TO ANOTHER.
****NO COMMISSARY ITEMS FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE WILL BE ACCEPTED INTO THE HOUSING AREA OF THE LAMAR COUNTY DETENTION CENTER. FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.****
All monies remaining on an inmate's books at the time of release will be added to a debit card issued by the jail.
RELIGIOUS SERVICES
Inmates shall have an opportunity to express religious affiliations and beliefs and attend voluntary worship services conducted within the facility. Religious services are conducted daily so that each inmate will have the opportunity to attend no less than twice weekly. Inmates are expected to recognize and respect the religious preferences of others.
