The inmates housed at Dodge State Prison located at 2971 Old Bethel Rd in Chester, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Dodge State Prison is a medium-security state penal facility that houses about 1250 adult male offenders located in Chester GA operated by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
The general population inmates are housed in dormitories, similar to an army barracks. Segregation inmates are housed in single-cell isolation. Select inmates with clean records of no incident reports can participate in work details on and off the institutional grounds. These assignments include grounds maintenance and other correctional industries including furniture production.
Educational opportunities for inmates include earning a GED, learning to read, and gaining a basic adult education. Offenders can also receive substance abuse, family violence, re-entry, and sex offender treatment and therapy through counseling sessions.
