The inmates housed at Lee State Prison located at 153 Pinewood Dr in Leesburg, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Lee State Prison is a medium-security institution that houses 762 adult male inmates who are housed in eleven units that have eight rooms, each room contains 6 beds/inmates. Two additional units have 24 cells with four beds/inmates in each cell. Isolation/Segregation inmates are held in 16 cells that have two beds in each, these cells are for inmates who are difficult to manage or have safety and security concerns. Select offenders can leave the institution on work crews that offer labor services to various departments within the county, including the department of transportation, local colleges, the recycling plant, fire station, and pond maintenance. Inmates also have educational opportunities that include learning to read, adult basic education and earning a GED. Counseling is available to everyone for a variety of reasons including substance abuse, family violence, behavioral modification, and preparing for re-entry. Vocational skills taught at this facility include automotive repair, HVAC, culinary arts, custodial and building maintenance, wastewater treatment, clerical work, carpentry, barbering, laundry services and horticulture.
MISSION – Ensure public safety and effectively house offenders while operating a safe and secure facility. Provide general labor and courtesy details to surrounding counties. Courses and programs taught to afford each offender the opportunity to enter back into society with the tools needed to become a productive citizen thus reducing recidivism. Host facility for the Albany Transitional Center. This facility also operates as a Transfer Hub.
HOUSING – Consists of 11 general population units with eight rooms, each containing six beds to a room. Two units consist of 24 rooms each containing four beds to a room. The isolation/segregation unit has a total of 16 cells/32 beds. Four bunks can accommodate offenders who are wheelchair-bound. There are 10 beds at the Fire Station for the offender Fireteam. This facility also houses a Personnel Recruitment Center, a C.E.R.T. Team, Tactical Squad, Canine Unit and a Fire Station.
