The Mitchell County GA Correctional Institute (MCCI) is a medium-security detention center located at 4838 GA-37 Camilla, GA which is operated locally by the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Mitchell County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Camilla Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The MCCI operates a 159-bed facility, housing 135 state inmates as well as 24 county offenders. They also provide general labor for Mitchell County, by using their inmates to provide work on country roads and other Mitchell County Government projects. The Correctional Institution serves to meet the workforce needs of local governments while fulfilling a contractual obligation to the Georgia Department of Corrections by providing safe and secure housing for inmates in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
The following are the services that they provide.
- Road department detail including dirt roads
- Maintenance to all county departments
- Maintain all recreation projects
- Perform all lawn care for the county facilities
- Maintain county dumpsters
- Handle tree removal on roads
These services are on a 24-hour basis.
The Correctional Institute also provides programs to help the inmates such as academic, counseling, and religious activities.

Mitchell County GA Correctional Institute – Visitation
Visitation for inmates is on Saturday, Sunday, and County observed Holidays from 9:00am to 1:00 pm.
Rules for visitors are as follow:
- No weapons, drugs, cellphones, or contraband allowed.
- No cellphones are allowed anywhere on the grounds.
- Visitors' phones must remain secured in their vehicles.
- Violators may be arrested and prosecuted.
- All visitors must be prior approved and on the inmate’s visitation list.
- Each visitor under 16 years of age MUST be accompanied by an Adult on the inmate’s list.
- A visitor may visit ONLY the inmate who has been approved and on the inmate’s list
- All visitors and their vehicles are subjected to be searched at any time while on County Prison Property.
- There are no restroom facilities available for inmates during visitation. If the inmate has to utilize a restroom, his visitation will be terminated at the time. Visitors do have access to restroom facilities
- Children MUST be supervised at all times.
