The Kennebec County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 115 State St Augusta, ME which is operated locally by the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Kennebec County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Augusta Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

Kennebec County Correctional Facility has a maximum population of 131 inmates. They embrace the concept of Community Policing. The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is committed to developing collaborative relationships with the municipalities it serves with the knowledge that when we work together we really can make a difference. All law enforcement agencies realize that they can’t ebb the tide of violence and drug abuse without collaborating with their communities on plans to stop these criminal activities.

Kennebec County Correctional Facility has developed alternative sentencing programs like Thumbs-Up and OUI Weekends, which save tax payers’ money and provide much needed public service projects to municipalities.
