The Montcalm County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 649 N State St Stanton, MI which is operated locally by the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Montcalm County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Stanton Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The current Montcalm County Jail opened in 2002 utilizing the latest innovations in Corrections technology and initially contained 119 beds. In 2003, an additional 52 beds were added after remodeling an adjoining section of the original jail, bringing the total bed capacity to 181. A second renovation, this time in the new facility was completed in the Fall of 2006, adding another 24 beds. The current total bed count is 205.
The Montcalm County Jail currently employs 17 full-time Corrections Officers and 4 Sergeants.

If you call and are not hearing updated information/court dates you may wish to call back after 3:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday) Jail Officers also will not know court/hearing status until after 3:00 p.m.

Montcalm County Jail – Visitation
All inmates will be allowed two (2) twenty (20) minute non-contact on-site visits each week.
Remote visits are offered to all inmates on a first come/first served basis and are limited to twenty (20) minutes each session unless back to back visits are scheduled for a total duration of 40 minutes.
Remote visits are unlimited as long as there are sessions available for the inmate.

General Rules:
Participation in video-visitation is a privilege, not a right. Both visitor and inmate are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate fashion at all times during a video visit.
Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to deny, cancel or terminate a video visit prior to or during a video session based on visitor or resident misconduct. Montcalm County Jail also reserves the right to restrict visitors from participating in all future use of the system.
All visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office personnel. Your use of this video visitation system constitutes consent to this recording and monitoring.
At Home Visitation Rules
1. All at home/remote video visitation sessions will be recorded and monitored.
2. Any misuse or abuse to the video visitation devises will result in termination of the visit and possible criminal/disciplinary action.
3. The inmate and visitor must remain properly dressed. No underclothing shall be exposed. NO NUDITY, NO PROVOCATIVE POSING and NO SEXUAL BEHAVIOR of any kind.
4. Inappropriate gestures, profanity, yelling, loud talking, excessive emotions or any type of disruptive behavior will not be permitted.
5. Any problems with audio or video reception must be reported to staff of Securus Technologies immediately.
6. The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to cancel any visitation time if it is in the best interest of the security of the facility.
On-site Visitation Rules

5. Each visitor must check in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled on-site visit. Visitors arriving late will only receive the balance of the remaining visiting time or may not be allowed to visit, depending on the circumstances.
6. Any problems with audio or video reception must be reported to staff of Securus Technologies immediately.
7. The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to cancel any visitation time if it is in the best interest of the security of the facility.
8. No electronic devices to include cellular phones are permitted in the visitation area.
9. Children 14 years or younger are not permitted in the visitation area.
10. Children 15-16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to visit.
11. No food or drinks are allowed in the visiting area.
12. Chairs are not allowed in the visiting area unless authorized by a Jail Sergeant for medical reasons.
13. Visitors are not allowed to loiter in the visiting area.
14. Only two visitors are permitted to visit during the session
15. No weapons or illegal substances are permitted and violators will be prosecuted.
16. Visitors must follow visitation rules and must follow all directions given by a Corrections Officer pertaining to the visit.
17. Minors not allowed in the visitation will not be left unattended on or near Montcalm County property.
Frequently Asked Questions About Video Visitation at Montcalm County Jail
Q: How does the new video visitation system work?
A: Inmates will visit with friends and family from a video visitation terminal (example to the right) in their housing unit. Friends and family will visit from a similar visitation terminal in the public visitation room located in the administration lobby of the Sheriff's office. These visits are referred to as "onsite" or "public" visitations.
The new system will allow visitors to still come to the jail for visitation and it will now also allow friends and family to conduct a "remote" or "at-home" visit from home using a computer, webcam and high-speed internet connection.
Q: How often can I visit inmates?
A: Each inmate is allowed two twenty minute visits from friends or family members weekly at the jail. Inmates can have unlimited remote visits from home.
Q: Do I need to come at a certain time to see my inmate?
A: Friends and family can schedule visits with inmates during any time visitation is allowed. Public visitation hours are Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 7:30 pm.
Q: Do I need to schedule my visit or can Ijust show up?
Visits need to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. You will need to use the website www.videovisitanvwhere.com . You will then create a free user account (if you don't already have one) and submit that for approval by the facility. Once you are approved, you can then log back in and click on "Schedule a Visit" at the bottom of the page and follow the steps listed.
When you schedule your visit, be sure to write down the following items:
1. The date and time of your visit
2. The six digit PIN number because you will enter this at the time of your visit
3. The video terminal you are assigned to (I.E. Vis_ 1, Vis_2, etc)
Q: Is there a charge for video visitation?
A: Each inmate will continue to receive two free onsite visits each week.
Inmates can now receive unlimited remote I at-home visits each week. "At-home" visits cost $12.99
for 20 minutes or $25.98 for 40 minutes.
Q: When can I visit?
A: On-site Public visitation hours are Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 7:30 pm
At-home visits can be scheduled every day of the week from 8:00 am – 10:00 pm.
Q: What do I need to do to visit from home?
A: You can conduct visits using an Apple or Android phone or tablet. Download the free Securus Visitation app in the App Store or Google Play. You will want to have a high speed internet connection during your visit. The app will let you test whether or not your connection is fast enough to support a quality visit.
You can also use a computer with high speed internet access and a webcam. You will need to do the following:
1. Create a visitation account at www.videovisitanywhere.com.
2. Request access to visit Montcalm County Jail. Your request is then reviewed by jail staff.
3. Once you are approved to be an at-home visitor, you can then schedule at-home visits.
