The Moniteau County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 102 E North St California, MO which is operated locally by the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Moniteau County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the California Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Moniteau County Jail was built in 2012 and currently houses 46 inmates at max capacity.

All incoming mail must have a full name and return address. No money; money order or check will be accepted.
All incoming mail must have the following for inmate:

Incoming mail containing, but not limited to, material depicting, describing or encouraging activities that could lead to physical violence or group disruptions; information regarding the manufacture of explosives or weapons; information regarding escape plots; plans to commit illegal activities or facility guidelines; information regarding the production of drugs or alcohol; sexually explicit material; threats, extortion, obscenity, or profanity; coded messages; anything affecting the safety and security of the facility; or any other contraband will be rejected. All incoming mail will normally be delivered to detainees the same day it is delivered to this facility, excluding weekends and holidays. Any incoming mail coming into the facility following a detainee’s release will be marked “Return to Sender” and returned to the postal service. Detainees may not write to any other detainee under the custody of this facility. Subscriptions to magazines, periodicals, newspapers or catalogues are not allowed and will be thrown away.
FINANCES
Money delivered to the facility by someone in person must be in the form of cash through the kiosk in the lobby with a fee that will apply to each transaction. The kiosk will NOT accept two-dollar bills. No checks, other than those written by other Detention/Correction Centers shall be accepted. Money orders will be accepted. Family members can also deposit money into your account by going to jailatm.com by giving them your booking number with a fee will apply to each transaction.

In-person visits are scheduled on Sundays 9:00 am til Noon and from 2:00 pm til 5:00 pm
