Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Douglas County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Minden Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Jail Division is responsible for the incarceration of inmates, and the service of civil papers/judgments for the courts. Jail facilities are located in the Carson Valley and at Lake Tahoe. The main jail in Minden has a maximum capacity for 98 inmates, and the Lake Tahoe facility for 22 inmates.
A variety of duties and services are required to support the incarceration of inmates. These include the transportation of inmates to and from court, medical/dental appointments, and to other correctional and mental health institutions.
