The Alleghany County NC Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 40 Alleghany St Sparta, NC which is operated locally by the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Alleghany County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Sparta Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Sheriff's Office maintains and operates the county jail, to include supervising inmates and protecting their rights. It is also responsible for providing inmates with food, clothing, exercise, recreation and medical services.
