The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

John J. Moran Medium Security Facility is located in Cranston Rhode Island. It is a medium security prison that houses adult male inmates. John J. Moran Prison operates several industrial operationsthat employ inmates in a garment shop, upholstery shop, autobody shop, and a license plate shop. This prison also provides several vocational training programs including a carpentry and cabinetmaking class, sheet metal/welding class, automotive technology training, and barbering. An additional program available to inmates is called ‘Prison Pups’ and allows the inmates to work training dogs for the deaf and disabled.

Inmates at John J. Moran Medium Security Facility who do not possess a diploma can take adult basic education classes, obtain a GED during their incarceration and even participate in college educationcourses. Additional programs offered to inmates include computer classes, creative writing, and literacy courses. Offenders can also receive alcohol and substance abuse treatment, sex offender treatment, sexual abuse counseling, domestic violence counseling, anger management counseling, and parenting courses.

No cellphones, you will be searched before visiting. NO personal belongings. Persons under probation, parole, or other community corrections supervision must obtain the permission of both their individual supervising officer and the superintendent prior to a visit. Such visitation is not normally approved. 

If the visitor is under the age of 18 and is a family member of the inmate, they must be accompanied by an adult family member or guardian to include a member of the inmate's extended family. If the visitor is under the age of 18 and is not a family member of the inmate, the minor visitor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
