The Anderson County SC Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 1009 County Home Rd in Anderson, SC. This county jail is operated locally by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Anderson County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Anderson Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

There are new detainees delivered to the jail daily, you can see arrest records here. Some are released after putting up bail, are released to a pretrial services caseload, are placed under supervision by a probation agency, or are released on their own recognizance with an agreement to appear in court. If there is no release, the inmate must wait here at the jail for their court appearance as a guest of the County, getting a bed and three square meals.

Trustees are inmates who work in the jail as cooks, as orderlies for the staff, in the laundry or in the commissary. The trustees are paid a very small amount for their time and some jail gives the trustees a few days off their sentence in exchange for their work.

When an inmate arrives in jail they are put together in a large holding cell with other inmates in the intake. While in intake they are under heightened observation. Violent and out of control inmates are segregated.

Can I Get Work Release?

Work release is when you are released from jail during the day so that you can go to work. At the end of the day, you return to jail for the night. There are a number of requirements to be able to get into the work-release program. Most programs require your employer to fill out some paperwork. If you want to get into the work release program then apply prior to being sentenced to jail. This will minimize the amount of time you spend in jail waiting to get into the program.

Can I call my family in Jail?

Anderson County SC Detention Center has a phone program where inmates make outbound calls only, you cannot call into jail. Since you are paying for those calls don't make it a habit of accepting collect-calls, they are over $15 each. The alternative is to set up an account through their third-party phone company which charges steep fees for each minute used. You are paying for them to call you. In order to ensure the safety of Detention Center personnel, inmates, their families & friends, the Anderson County Detention Center has put in place rules and guidelines for visitation. These rules are not meant to be “arbitrary,” but were put in place to ensure the safety of all, and order in the facility. You will find these policies and rules below.

Wednesday

• Females 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Thursday

​Rules & Regulations

• Inmates will be allowed two 30 minute visits per week, one morning and one evening time slot.
• Visits are limited to five persons per visit to the first person arriving. If visitors arrive after the inmates 30-minute time slot is used, they will not be allowed to visit. Visitations will need to be coordinated by the inmate and family/friends since the inmate will only be pulled once for visit.
• Professional visitors such as clergy or attorneys do not count against the two visits. Any member of the clergy may visit any one inmate each Monday (excluding holidays) between 9:30 am and 11:00 am. Ordination documentation must be provided to reception prior to a visit. Clergy may also visit with the family during normal visits provided they are on the visitation list. Attorney visits will be accommodated during normal business hours and after hours by special arrangement. Attorneys, bondsman, etc. are asked not to visit during the lunch meal period from 11:45 until 12:15.
• Only visitors who are on the inmate’s visitation list will be allowed to visit. During the intake process, the inmate fills out the list containing ten (10) persons of their choosing and can only be changed every ninety (90) days.
• All adult visitors must present photo identification such as a driver’s license, state I.D. card, etc.
• Visitors entering the facility are subject to a pat-down search. Visitors have the right to refuse the search; however, refusal terminates visitation privileges for that day.
• No purses, bags, firearms or weapons of any type, chemical sprays, cell phones, or cameras will be allowed in the facility. All personal effects must be left at home or in your vehicle.
• Officers may refuse a visit if a visitor appears under the influence of any intoxicating substance, refuses to cooperate, fails to produce identification or acts in a disorderly manner.
• All visitors are required to follow the instructions of the Detention Staff. Visitors failing to cooperate will be asked to leave, terminating the visit and are subject to the revocation of visiting privileges.
• Children are to be kept under supervision and control during the visit.
• Visitors must wear conservative clothing. Short-Shorts, miniskirts, bathing suits, halter tops, or other revealing clothing is prohibited and will prevent them from visiting. Any visitor who intentionally exposes themselves in violation of state law during a visit will be prosecuted criminally.

Proper Attire

• Visitors must wear proper attire which conforms to reasonable standards. Halter tops, underwear-type t-shirts, tank tops, fishnet shirts, or any type of shirt or pants made with see-through fabric are not allowed by any visitor (male or female).
• If the Visitation Officer feels that a visitor's clothing is inappropriate, the visit may be denied.
• Visitors must remain fully clothed during the visit.
• Shoes and shirt are mandatory.
