This facility is for adult inmates.
The Smith County TX Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 206 E Elm St Tyler, TX which is operated locally by the Smith County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Smith County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Tyler Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Smith County currently has three facilities used to house inmates. The central jail was constructed in 1986 with 106,000 sq. ft. and a capacity of 276 inmates. The Low-Risk Facility was constructed in 1989 with a medium risk addition in 1994. This facility will accommodate 432 inmates. The county also houses 47 trusty inmates on the 5th floor of the Smith County Courthouse. The three facilities provide the county with a maximum capacity of 755 inmates.

Inmate visitation information
The signing up of visitors shall begin 30 minutes prior to the start of visiting hours
All adults requesting a visit with an inmate must have his/her name listed on the inmate's visitor authorization form. Persons not listed on the visitor authorization card shall not be allowed to visit.
Approved visitors who live at least 100 miles from Smith County may be allowed "Special" visits once per month by contacting the Operation Lieutenant.
Only adults may be on an inmate's visitor authorization form. Authorization forms shall be updated once each month. Inmates shall not be permitted to add names to his/her authorization form before the scheduled time.
Visitors must present proper identification containing their photograph. The following identification shall be authorized:
Current Texas or out of state driver's license (recently expired driver's license shall be accepted up to six months after expiration.) Paper license renewal slips shall be accompanied by other photo identification.
A valid photo identification issued by a Local, State, or Federal Agency.
16 – 18 years old may use school photo identification card.
All visitors shall be expected to act in an orderly manner. Persons accompanied by children under the age of sixteen (16) years shall not need to be placed on the visitor's authorization form as long as they are accompanied by an adult listed on the card.
Persons 16 years and older shall be required to have proper identification.
A visit may be denied to any person if the visitor or inmate fails to comply with any of the stated jail rules.
Physical searches may be conducted with probable cause.
Visitors shall not give any items directly to inmates.
Visitors shall sign up and be processed for entry to the jail at least 30 minutes prior to end of visitation hours.
Any questions regarding the above guidelines should be referred to the Smith County Jail Supervisor on duty.

No spandex or tights
No dress/skirts/shorts above mid-thigh
