The Tarrant County Green Bay Facility is a medium-security detention center located at 2500 Urban Dr Ft Worth, TX which is operated locally by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Tarrant County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Ft Worth Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards sets rules and procedures, establishes minimum standards for the construction, maintenance, and operation of county jails. The Tarrant County Detention Bureau has passed this certification every year since 1995. In October 2012, Tarrant County received certification on the Lon Evans Correction Center, a 207,700 square foot, five-story maximum-security facility.

The Detention Bureau is staffed with approximately 1,000 men and women certified as detention officers or peace officers (sheriff's deputies) by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). The Tarrant County Jail has a capacity of approximately 5,000 prisoners and is comprised of five facilities.

The Tarrant County Jail Industries is located inside the Tarrant County Corrections Center. This unit is supervised by one officer and consists of 15 – 18 female volunteer inmate trustees who would like to learn a profession in the sewing industry. This unit produces items such as inmate mattresses, mattress covers and inmate clothing. They also make bedding for inmates classified as needing special precautions. The unit also produces specialized clothing and leather goods for the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office. Besides saving taxpayers money by manufacturing items in-house, the unit is able to turn repaired uniforms and bedding items around quicker and more efficiently than out-sourcing the items.

The Detention Bureau offers inmates opportunities to improve their education while in custody. Courses offered are General Educational Development (G.E.D.) and English as a Second Language. All facilities provide a full spectrum of inmate counseling services, medical and psychological services.

Inmates have access to the Law Library, to prepare their own legal documents, and the Recreational Library.

All inmate money transfers must be done by money order and mailed to the facility with inmate name and number

Inmates are permitted to send and receive letters. Letters mailed to inmates shall be no larger than 12" by 16".
Inmates may purchase writing supplies (paper, envelopes, pens, and stamps) from inmate commissary. Writing supplies are furnished to indigent inmates. The only item which may be enclosed with correspondence mailed to an inmate is 10 or less unframed photographs no larger than 4" by 6". Photographs of the self-developing type (Polaroid), from which the hard backing has not been removed are not acceptable. Any contraband items received will be returned to sender. New, soft-backed books must be shipped directly from a well established and recognized retail book store such as Barnes and Noble. Only packages shipped via UPS or United States Postal Service (USPS) will be accepted. Packages from third party couriers will not be accepted (Amazon uses these couriers so Amazon packages will not be accepted). Magazines and cross-word puzzle books must be a subscription from a publisher. Photographs determined to contain inappropriate subject matter or images depicting nudity, sexual acts, physical violence or gruesome subject matter will not be allowed. The jail is responsible only for mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. All tracer actions on lost mail must be referred directly to the post office by the sender.

GENERAL VISITATION HOURS

All facilities have the same visitation schedule. The signing up of visitors shall begin 30 minutes prior to the start of visiting hours.  

Inmates whose last name begins with the letter:

A through L  

• Saturdays and Mondays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Visitors will not be processed after 8:30 p.m.
• Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will not be processed after 2:30 p.m.

M through Z  

• Sundays and Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors will not be processed after 8:30 p.m.
• Fridays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors will not be processed after 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday – Thursday
9 a.m. through 9 p.m.
Attorneys may visit whenever needed

Sunday through Saturday
5 p.m. through 9 p.m.

Inmates housed in an Intensive Care, or other special care units, will be permitted visitation with immediate family members in accordance with the individual hospital policy.
 

LIMITATIONS – Each inmate will be limited to one 30-minute visit per day.  A maximum of two adults will be allowed to visit at any one time.  No more than two children, 17 years of age or younger, may visit (maximum of 2 children). Children 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

•    Each inmate may receive a maximum of three visits per week, not including attorney, law enforcement or professional visits, unless approved by a Supervisor. The signing up of visitors shall begin 30 minutes prior to the start of visiting hours. Visitors will not be processed after 8:30 p.m.

•    Visitors who have been incarcerated in a Tarrant County detention facility within the past 6 months will not be authorized to visit.

DURATION OF VISITS / SPECIAL VISITS – Each visiting period for local visitors is 30 minutes per day; regardless of the number of persons an inmate receives during a particular visit.

Out-of-town residents who reside further than 150 miles from Fort Worth city limits will be allowed a 40-minute visit. Residence will be verified at the time of the visit during normal visitation hours.

CONDUCT – All visitors shall be expected to follow visitation rules and act in an orderly manner.  Adults are responsible for children’s behavior. Visits may be terminated at any time when the conduct of the visitor or inmate threatens the safety, security and orderly operations of the facility. Visitors must remain in the building. No in-and-out of the building is permitted.

DRESS CODE – A conservative dress code shall be enforced for all visitors coming in to visit. Please dress in clothing which is appropriate for a large gathering of men, women and young children. Wearing inappropriate clothing (such as provocative or revealing clothes) will result in you being denied visitation.

The following items shall NOT be permitted:

•    Revealing shorts
•    Sundresses
•    Halter tops
•    Bathing suits
•    See-through garments of any type
•    Low-cut blouses or dresses
•    Leotards
•    Spandex or tight-fitting pants or blouses
•    Miniskirts
•    Backless tops
•    Pajamas
•    Hats or caps
•    Sleeveless garments
•    Skirts 2 inches or more above the knee
•    Dresses or skirts with a high-cut split mid-back, front or side
•    Clothing that looks like inmate clothing (Institutional-type) (Khaki or green  military-type clothing)

PROHIBITED ITEMS

Tobacco, lighters, matches, cameras, electronic recording devices, cell phones, backpacks, bags, purses or unlabeled prescription medication are not permitted within visitation areas. No food or drinks shall be taken to the visitation areas except as allowed for infants. Prohibited items include hospital visits.

ITEMS ALLOWED
Visitors bringing infants to Visitation shall be permitted to bring the following:

•    One diaper bag
•    Blanket which must fit into the diaper bag
•    Bottles which must fit into the diaper bag
•    Infant carrier – a visual inspection of infant carrier will be conducted

IDENTIFICATION

Visitors 18 years of age and older must present proper identification containing their photograph. The following types of identification shall be accepted:

•    Valid Driver’s License from any state. A temporary (paper) license may be accepted as long as it is current and the person has another type of photo identification.
•    Valid identification card issued from any state.
•    Valid passports are acceptable identification under the following rules per the U.S. Department of State (www.travel.state.gov/ppt_faq.html):
•    If the person was 16 years of age or older when the passport was issued, the passport is valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
•    If the person was 15 years of age or younger when the passport was issued the passport is valid for five years from the date of issue.
•    Immigration ID card with photo, issued by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service
•    Mexican Consulate cards
•    Mexican Voter Registration cards with a United States address listed as a residence are not valid forms of identification.  
•    Military ID cards, including active duty, reserve, National Guard, retired or dependents.  All of these ID cards are issued by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) with the exception of the State Guard, which is issued by the respective State.

VISITORS 17 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER

Any visitor 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult (18 years old or above).

VISITATION INFORMATION PAMPHLET

A Visitation Information Pamphlet shall be available for review and handout to visitors in each Visitation Reception area.  The pamphlet shall provide information for visitors visiting inmates in jail.
