The inmates housed at AK DOC – Fairbanks Correctional Center located at 1931 Egan Ave in Fairbanks, AK are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The Fairbanks Correctional Center is a close security institution serving as an intake facility for Northern Alaska and providing sentenced prisoner housing. The institution houses male and female, pre-trial and sentenced prisoners of all custody levels. Prisoners are provided an opportunity for reformation through a variety of programs including educational courses, substance abuse treatment and alternatives to violence instruction.

Fairbanks correctional center in Alaska houses both male and female inmates of varying custody levels. Inmates have access to a variety of programs including basic computing courses, general education classes that enable an inmate to earn a GED, and even some college classes. Inmates can also prepare for college entrance exams.

Some of the treatments this facility offers are substance abuse treatment programs, anger management, and domestic violence courses. Most of these programs focus on conflict resolution skills and hope to reduce the incidence of violence through self discipline. The substance abuse program fills up quickly, as it only allows for 25 inmates to participate per quarter. Inmates eligability for these courses will be decided upon initial intake and classification.

During the first 24 hours, generally s/he will be available for visiting from 10:30 am —12:30 pm, 3:30—4:30 pm, 5:30-7:30 pm or 9:30 pm— 5:30 am or when there are no other visitors. Individuals who self-report, violate probation or who had a warrant aren’t eligible for first 24 hour visits. Please call in advance with questions or to verify if an individual is eligible for a first 24 hour visit. Contact Visits: Contact visits are for immediate family only and take place in a separate room from secure visiting. The inmate is the only person who can initiate the process to schedule a contact visit. You will be required to bring in documentation (birth/marriage certificate) to the front desk prior to the scheduling of a contact visit. Visiting days of the week are determined by the first letter of the inmate’s last name. Monday: A – K Tuesday: L – Z Wednesday: A – K Thursday: L – Z Friday: A – Z Saturday: A – K Sunday: L – Z Visiting may be cancelled without notice for security reasons. We have the right to refuse admission to any visitor who is deemed a threat to security or orderly administration.
