AL DOC – Frank Lee Community Work Center basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 334-290-3200
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Lee Work Center located at 5305 Ingram Rd in Deatsville, AL are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Frank Lee Community Based Facility and Community Work Center is a minimum-security state prison camp for first-time offenders operated by the Alabama Department of Corrections, located in Deatsville, Elmore County AL.
The J.F. Ingram Trade School, adjacent to the facility, provides classes for upholstery, welding, cabinetry, auto trim, auto mechanics, barbering, horticulture, furniture restoration, and a General Education Diploma. Frank Lee also offers work release/community service opportunities that allow inmates to secure employment with businesses located in surrounding communities. The Work Center allows inmates to perform roadside/grass cutting duties for surrounding cities and county municipalities.
“Work Release” is a program of the AL DOC in which selected inmates are allowed gainful employment in the community and will be supervised in a community-based facility when not working. The program is designed to assist you in preparing for release and to aid you in making the transition from a structured institutional environment and reintegrate back into the community. Your Classification Specialist will explain to you how you can qualify for the Work Release Program.
From your earned wages, a percentage of your gross salary will be deducted and paid to the AL DOC to help defray the cost of maintaining you in the work release program. Inmates that participate in the Work Release program agree to pay a fee to cover the cost of transportation to and from your work site. If you are ordered by the courts, you will pay restitution, court cost, and child support. You will be charged a medical co-pay fee for specific medical services rendered. You will be charged a drug testing fee if you test positive for any illegal substances. You will be charged a laundry fee for laundry service on your free-world clothing.
State and federal income taxes and Social Security taxes will also be deducted from your gross paycheck. The remainder of your wages will be deposited in your PMOD account. In some circumstances, depending on your PMOD balance, you may be allowed to send money home.
When you first arrive at a work release facility, you may be given a job assignment working at the facility. In the event that a public protest is received (victim, Judge or District Attorney) in regards to your participation in the Work Release Program, and if the protest is honored by the AL DOC, you may be returned to a more restrictive facility, or you may remain at the work release facility and not allowed to work in the community. You will not be considered a participant in the program until you are approved and placed in a paying job in the community.
