AL DOC – Mobile Work Release basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 251-452-0098
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Mobile Work Release located at 2423 N Beltline Hwy in Prichard, AL are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Mobile Community Based Facility and Community Work Center is a minimum custody state prison that houses and provides employment for Minimum-Community and Minimum-Out custody Alabama Department of Corrections inmates. The majority of the facility’s inmates are Minimum-Community custody and hold positions for private sector employers throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Minimum-Out custody inmates assigned to the facility perform community work projects with local state, county, and city agencies. With a robust industrial capacity, the area provides a great foundation for advancement to inmates that have participated in trade-school and ATEF programs. Funds earned by inmate-employees are deducted restitutions and other court-ordered payments and is an important element of payment to victims and dependent children. While earning competitive wages, inmates at the facility can also participate in Aftercare, NA/AA, and GED classes. An intensive SAP program is also available for inmates that require substance abuse treatment.

“Work Release” is a program of the AL DOC in which selected inmates are allowed gainful employment in the community and will be supervised in a community-based facility when not working. The program is designed to assist inmates preparing for release and to aid them in making the transition from a structured institutional environment and reintegrate back into the community. A Classification Specialist will explain to the inmate how they can qualify for the Work Release Program.
From their earned wages, a percentage of the gross salary will be deducted and paid to the AL DOC to help defray the cost of maintaining them in the work release program. Inmates that participate in the Work Release program agree to pay a fee to cover the cost of transportation to and from their work site. If they are ordered by the courts, you will pay restitution, court cost, and child support. Inmates will be charged a medical co-pay fee for specific medical services rendered. The inmate will be charged a drug testing fee if they test positive for any illegal substances. Inmates will be charged a laundry fee for laundry service on your free-world clothing.
State and federal income taxes and Social Security taxes will also be deducted from their gross paycheck. The remainder of their wages will be deposited in their PMOD account. In some circumstances, depending on their PMOD balance, they may be allowed to send money home.
When inmates first arrive at a work release facility, they will be given a job assignment working at the facility. In the event that a public protest is received (victim, Judge or District Attorney) in regards to your participation in the Work Release Program, and if the protest is honored by the AL DOC, inmate may be returned to a more restrictive facility, or they may remain at the work release facility and not allowed to work in the community. Inmates will not be considered a participant in the program until they are approved and placed in a paying job in the community.
