The Amador County CA Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 700 Court St Jackson, CA which is operated locally by the Amador County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Amador County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Jackson Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Corrections Division strives to provide the opportunity for those inmates who choose to serve the community in meaningful ways and make personal improvements. All of these goals must be accomplished while maintaining the standards set for its operation in Title 15 of the California Code of Regulations. The Amador County Correctional facility has a State rated capacity for 76 inmates—65 Males and 11 Females.

PHONE CALLS – All arrested persons are entitled to three free local or three collect long-distance calls, ​within three hours of being arrested. After the booking process is completed, the arrested ​person may use the telephone to make calls to arrange for bail, contact an attorney, or ​notify family or other persons. ​Telephone calls to attorneys, physicians, clergyman, sexual assault counselors or ​psychotherapists cannot be eavesdropped upon or monitored. All other telephone calls ​may be monitored, eavesdropped upon and recorded to provide for the reasonable ​security of the jail.

​Housed inmates may use the telephone in their cell block day room to make collect or ​credit card calls or they may request to use a telephone that is not monitored for calls to ​attorneys, physicians, clergyman, sexual assault counselors or psychotherapists. Inmates ​may use the telephone between 6:00 A.M. and 11:00 P.M. All telephones may be turned ​off for the safety and security of the jail at any given time.

​MAIL – Inmates receive incoming mail Monday through Thursday. If an inmate has no money, ​postage for three personal letters per week will be provided. Legal mail is not restricted. Mail must have a complete mailing and return address with the sender's name on the ​envelope. All mail will be checked for contraband. Correspondence privileges may be ​withheld if an inmate attempts to receive contraband through the mail.

INMATE ACCOUNTS – Money can be deposited into inmate accounts using the kiosk in our lobby, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and during visiting hours. Money can also be deposited into inmate accounts on-line and via telephone.

MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE – Inmates are provided with appropriate and necessary medical and dental care. The Jail is staffed with a Nurse and Physician to provide this care. In the case of an emergency, inmates are taken to the Sutter Amador Hospital. Inmates may be seen by their own physician; at their own expense, plus the cost of transportation. In these cases the costs for transportation will be pre-paid; the cost for medical treatment will be by agreement between the inmate and outside facility physician or treatment facility.

MEDICATION – Medication is delivered to inmates under the direction of the detention physician. Over the counter medications such as Tylenol and antacid are available upon request.

MENTAL HEALTH – Being in jail can be stressful. Amador County Mental Health is available at the request of the inmate or staff.

Appointments are accepted beginning at 8:00 am each Friday by calling the jail at 209-223-6521. If available, an hour visit can be scheduled.

Visits are limited to one half hour

If you are currently on Probation, Parole, Supervision pursuant to AB109, or you have been confined within the Amador County Jail within the last 60 days, you will not be allowed to visit.

A Contact Visit is a visit which physical contact between the inmate and the visitor is permitted. Inmates may have contact visits with their attorney's. The Amador County Jail offers contact visits between inmates and their children 10 years and younger. In order to participate in contact visits an inmate must be sentenced to 30 days or longer and attend parenting classes offered in the facility as well as agree to continue free parenting classes after their release.

A Non-Contact Visit is a visit in which physical contact between the inmate and the visitor is NOT permitted. Non-contact visits are required for maximum-security inmates or any inmate who has a hold placed against them pending transfer to another institution. 

1. All visits will be non-contact visits unless the inmate has been approved for contact visits.
2. Inmates may lose their visiting right if there is a violation of detention facility rules.
3. Visiting may be terminated at any time for security reasons.

Visits will be one-half hour (1/2) in duration and begin and end as near to the half-hour as practical. Once a visit session has commenced, tardy visitors will be allowed to visit during the in-progress one half hour session with no time extension, providing there is a vacant visiting room; or they may choose to wait until the start of the next session. For instance, if a visit session were to began at 1:00 PM and a visitor did not arrive until 1:10 PM and wished to visit at that time, the visit would still be considered to have been fulfilled at 1:30 PM. 

Inmates are allowed one visit per visiting day – Civilian visitors are limited to a maximum of one visit per day regardless of the number of inmates they wish to visit. A maximum of two (2) persons are limited in the visiting booth at one time.

Every visitor is required to present proof of his/her identity and age prior to being allowed to visit. This proof will be in the form of an identification card complete with a photograph of the prospective visitor. Acceptable forms of identification are valid drivers license or state-issued identification card, military ID card, passport, school ID card as long as there is a photograph included in conjunction with a valid certificate of live birth. Temporary birth record from the hospital will be accepted for infants for 60 days from date of birth. 

Staff will NOT allow civilian visitors who are intoxicated, belligerent or disruptive to visit with inmates.

Visitors must be eighteen (18) years or older. Juveniles who are under the age of eighteen (18) years may visit inmates as long as a parent or guardian accompanies them. Proof of guardianship must be presented, and verified to the satisfaction of the intake staff, upon request, prior to a visit being allowed.
