The Aroostook County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 15 Broadway Houlton, ME which is operated locally by the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Aroostook County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Houlton Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Corrections personnel are responsible for the safety and well being of all inmates brought to the Aroostook County Jail. This can be a very stressful job as some inmates can, and do, become violent. These Corrections Officers handle in excess of 1,500 inmates per year, on average. This jail's rated capacity is 72 inmates.
