The Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) is a medium to low-security detention center located at 3485 Mike Padgett Hwy Augusta, GA that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

Regional Youth Detention Centers (RYDC) provide temporary, secure care and supervision to youth who have been charged with offenses or who have been adjudicated delinquent and are awaiting placement. In addition, youth who have been committed to the custody of DJJ are sometimes placed in an RYDC while awaiting treatment in a community program or a long-term facility.
DJJ's regional and district administrators, RYDC directors, and the Office of Continuous Improvement ensure that each RYDC follows departmental policy and procedures and provides quality services in the following areas: Medical, Education, Behavioral Health, Nutrition, and general programming.
Program Description:
​Situated on 456 acres, the Augusta Youth Development Campus was originally opened in the early 1950’s as a training school with instruction in farming and animal husbandry. Today the Augusta Youth Development Campus is an innovative, specialized program for the treatment of offenders with special needs. A Juvenile Corrections Counselor position was created for this type of specialized clientele. These counselors receive detailed specialized training prior to working with offenders. In addition to this innovative specialized treatment program, the facility also houses a general population and Short Term Program.
The facility provides core educational programs and vocational classes in horticulture, computer skills, and building construction. Medical services, individual guidance, counseling, and recreation services are provided.
