This facility is for adult inmates.

The Bradford County FL Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 945 N Temple Ave Starke, FL which is operated locally by the Bradford County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Bradford County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Starke Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Bradford County Jail was built in 1995 and houses both male and female inmates in different sections. The current classification levels are Maximum, Medium, and Minimum.

Information regarding inmate visits, money, phone calls and personal property:

• We do not accept any personal property for inmates with the exception of prescription eyeglasses, dentures or orthopaedic supplies (all of which must be approved by our medical staff).
• Clothing, pens, paper, stamps or envelopes must be purchased through the commissary service.
• Bibles and reading materials cannot be accepted.
• Dress Code for Visitors: NO See-through clothing, halter tops, sleeveless tops, midriff or cleavage exposing tops, skirts or dresses that have slits above the knees or do not cover your knees, inappropriate language on clothes, swimsuits, hats or other items covering the head, sunglasses, watches, or other items of value. (Any exception to the above-stated rules must be approved by a Visitation member prior to the visit commencing). All visits are no contact only.
• Inmates may use the phone to make phone calls anytime between 7am-11pm.

Money information:

When entering the Jail, your money is put into an account for purchasing canteen items. If you need to send money out (one time only), submit a request to the Captain with your name, the person’s name and the amount. The person is issued a check and must present picture ID to Jail staff. Upon release, you will be issued a check for the balance of your account (minus any money you owe to the Jail). All funds deposited to inmate accounts must come from an official source e.g. government check or from a relative or someone on the inmate’s visiting record.

Money can be deposited into account over the phone (1-866-345-1884), by Internet (www.commissarydeposit.com) or the teller machine located in the Jail lobby (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m). Inmates may not have money deposited to another inmate’s account.

Picking-Up Personal Property

You may have someone pick-up your personal property (except clothes and shoes) between 9:00 AM & 3:00 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. You must sign a slip authorizing the pick-up. No items may be dropped off at the Jail for you.

Clothing, Linen, Sporks & Cups:

Personal clothing is not allowed. You will be issued (1) each: mattress, pillow, blanket, , pillow case, towel, laundry basket, cup, spork and pair of shower slides; and (2) each: sheets, jumpsuits, t-shirts, boxers/panties, socks). You must turn-in these items upon release; your account will be charged the cost of missing or damaged items. Sporks/cups may be exchanged daily at the Supper meal.

Phone Calls:

Inmates may not use Jail staff phones except in an emergency. Not having an account or people not accepting collect calls is not a reason to use a Jail phone. Each pod has a collect call telephone, which is normally turned-on from 10:00 AM until 11:00 PM weekdays and until 2:00 AM on weekends (as long as the Pod is clean and orderly). A list of local Bondsmen is posted on the bulletin board; they accept collect calls.

To use the phone, you will need your PIN number, which is your MNI number without the letters and a 01in back. Example: If your MNI number is BCSO09MNI000437, then your PIN will be 0900043701. Inmates may not use another inmate’s PIN to make calls.

First Appearance:

First appearance is by video link or telephone on the day after you are booked in (or as determined by the Judge). During the hearing, you may be given a bond amount (or a “No Bond” status) and advised if a public defender is assigned to you.

Inmate telephone call policies.

Inmate Telephone Calls Bradford County Jail is now using Securus Telephone Services. To obtain information about setting up an account go to securustech.net and sep up an AdvancedPay account.

1. Population inmates may use the phone 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM (7 Days a week) Calls are limited to (15) minutes.

2. Confinement Status a. Disciplinary Confinement inmates are not allowed calls, except as authorized by a Lieutenant, or above. b. Administrative Confinement inmates and inmates in multi-purpose cells are allowed one (15) minute call a day as long as there are no health or security reasons to preclude a call.

3. Incoming Phone Calls a. Inmates are not allowed to receive telephone calls b. No phone messages will be taken for inmates except from attorneys.

4. Inmates may not make phone calls on behalf of another inmate.

5. All phones will be turned off during emergencies.

6. Three-way calls are not permitted and may lead to disciplinary action, including suspension of phone privileges.

7. Inmates shall not make harassing phone calls. Such calls will result in disciplinary action.

8. Official Jail phones are not for routine inmate use. Not establishing a Jail phone account or people not accepting collect calls are not sufficient reasons; inmates may use a free “Admin” call on the inmate phone system once for each number called to inform the person about the calling system or other matters.

Deposits to inmate accounts allow for deposits by two methods:

1) Internet-deposits visit the commissarydeposit.com

2) Jail Lobby Kiosk Deposits may be made during normal business hours using cash or debit/credit cards (Visa/MasterCard).

Inmate Sexual Assault or Intimidation

The Bradford County Jail does not tolerate sexual misconduct or pressure from staff, volunteers, visitors, inmates or other persons to perform or engage in sexual behavior regardless of sexual orientation. Sexual misconduct is defined as any behavior, conversation, correspondence or act of a sexual nature directed towards an inmate by staff, volunteer, visitor, or another person while within the Bradford County Jail.

Prevention of sexual misconduct can be accomplished by being aware of your surroundings. Do not accept gifts, favors, or offers of protection – most come with strings attached. Be alert, using contraband narcotics can impair your judgment. Be direct and firm when saying no to unwanted activity. If you fear for your safety report it to staff.

Reporting of sexual misconduct can be done verbally to any deputy or by using an Inmate Request Slip. You will be protected from the assailant and the incident will be investigated. You may need a medical exam. Do not clean up, it is important to be examined prior to washing, changing clothes or using the restroom. You may be asked to give a statement and if criminal charges are brought against the assailant you may be asked to testify.

Treatment will be provided by medical staff. You will be referred to the Sheriff’s Victim Advocate for assistance and follow-up.

Inmate Visitation Policies

The following pertains to onsite visitation.

• Visitors need to bring to the visit an official, picture I.D. (driver’s license, state identification card, military ID).
• Dress guidelines for visitors: Attire must not be “revealing;” shorts/skirts must not be shorter than mid-thigh; footwear must be worn. If an item of clothing appears inconsistent with this policy, the Shift Supervisor will make the final decision.
• No children under 18 will be left unattended in the lobby.
• Only one visitor at-a-time is allowed in the visiting area; if additional persons are authorized to visit, they must wait in the Lobby and take turns in the visiting area.
• Visitors may not bring personal property (including cell phones) into the visiting area. Violation of this policy may lead to a suspension of visiting privileges.
• Visits are terminated if visitors or inmates use profanity, cause disruptions, act in a sexually suggestive manner, or fail to follow jail rules. Visitors must only visit the designated inmate.
• No food or drinks are allowed in the visiting area.
• Visitors must only visit the designated inmate. The video kiosk provided must be used for all conversation; using notes or some type of sign language is not permitted.
• Visitors shall not open the Jail door to allow persons to enter or prop the door open. Visitors who leave the Jail may not re-enter unless authorized by staff.
• Visitors are reminded that introducing into or possessing upon, the grounds of any detention facility CONTRABAND (items such as drugs, weapons, tobacco, etc.) as defined in Florida Statute 921.22, can lead to criminal prosecution. (FS 921.22 is posted in the lobby).
