The Brown County OH Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 750 Mt. Orab Pike Georgetown, OH which is operated locally by the Brown County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Brown County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Georgetown Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Here are some of the specific services that are available for inmates at the Brown County Jail.
MONEY – Inmates are not permitted to possess money while incarcerated. For each inmate with money at the time of booking, or who receives money while incarcerated, an inmate account will be established. Inmates may use their account to order items from our commissary menu twice a week. Inmates are not permitted to obtain items by any other means.
How to send money to an inmate: All funds must be in the form of a money order or certified check made payable to the inmate and sent via the US Postal Service or dropped off at the Brown County Sheriff s Office in the DropBox in the front lobby. We do not accept cash or personal checks. Upon receipt of a money order or certified check, it will be credited to the inmate's account.
Upon release, the inmate will be notified of their account balance. The check with their remaining balance will be mailed to the address given at the time of booking, within 7-10 business days.
Inmates are not permitted to release any funds from their account.
CORRESPONDENCE – You may write to an inmate by addressing your letter to the inmate, c/o Brown County Sheriff s Office 750 Mt. Orab Pike, Georgetown, Ohio 45121. All mail is opened and inspected for contraband by Detention Center staff prior to delivery to the inmate. Any money orders or certified checks are removed and credited to the inmate's account. All correspondence must be sent via the US Postal Service. No blank paper or envelopes sent through the mail will be given to the inmate. Inmates will not receive any mail that has been sprayed with perfume if so it will be returned to sender. Only (5) photos can be mailed in at a time. Any photos deemed inappropriate will be placed in the inmate's property.
INDIGENT INMATES – Inmates are permitted to purchase paper, security ink pens and stamped envelopes through the commissary to send mail. Any inmate determined to be indigent is permitted to receive one indigent package a week. Each package contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, three sheets of paper and two stamped envelopes. A charge is placed against the inmate's account and the amount collected should the inmate receive any funds in the future.
TELEPHONE CALLS – The Brown County Sheriff's Office maintains four phones in each housing unit. The inmates have access to the phones to make collect calls to the persons of their choice. Inmates may also purchase inmate calling cards through the commissary which allows the inmate to call directly without any charge to the person being called. No other types of calling cards are permitted. A computerized record is maintained of every phone call made and all phone calls are recorded. Incoming calls are not accepted nor are messages given to the inmate to make calls. COMMISSARY – The Brown County Sheriff's Office operates an inmate commissary from which inmates may order items that include hygiene items, candy, chips, snacks, stamped envelopes, paper, pens, coffee and board games. All commissary items must be ordered here. No outside items of any kind are permitted to be brought in.
Certain items will be accepted as a donation for the use of all inmates. This includes paperback books and board games not sold from the commissary. These must be approved by the Jail Administrator, new and sealed in the box and are subject to inspection. All donations become the property of the Brown County Sheriff's Office.
CLOTHING – The Brown County Sheriff's Office provides all clothing to inmates including pants, shirts, underwear, socks and shoes. Inmates are prohibited from wearing personal clothing items during their incarceration.
INMATE SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON – We do not accept items of any kind for inmates to take to prison. Tobacco products will be destroyed upon receiving them.
All personal items must be picked up by a family/friend within five days of the date the inmate was transported to prison. Any items not picked up will be destroyed.

Brown County OH Jail – Visitation
All inmates have a set visitation time according to their cell assignment.
- Medical and Ag Seg visitation is on Wednesdays.
- North Block is on Saturday and South Block is on Sunday's.
All inmates are responsible to notify family and friends of their visitation times. Inmates who are indigent and cannot contact visitors will receive paper and stamped envelope to notify family and friends with visitation information.
All visitors are subject to search upon entering the facility. Visitors must show a photo I.D., and sign the visitation book with name, address and any other information requested.
All visitors are to be here 10 minutes prior to the scheduled visitation time to sign in. If you arrive after the scheduled visit time you will not be permitted to visit. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Only three visitors at one time per inmate allowed in the visiting area.
No visitors under the age of 18 without an adult or legal guardian are permitted to visit.
No one is permitted to return to the visitation area after they have exited.
Purses, bags or anything able to hold contraband is prohibited in the visitation area.
Visitation may be denied if a visitor poses a security risk, safety risk or is disruptive to other visitors or the staff of the Sheriff's Office.
Any visitor denied visitation will not visit an inmate at any time. Inmates have the right to deny their visit.
Visitors caught with contraband will be arrested and prosecuted.
Visitation may be denied due to disciplinary action against the inmate.
If the visitor is a victim of the charge the inmate is incarcerated for, on a protection order with the inmate or a co-defendant on the inmate's case, that visitor will not be permitted to visit.
Visitors may be denied visitation if their clothing is deemed inappropriate by the officer at the front desk.
All children must be supervised at all times. If an issue exists, a Road Deputy will be called in to address the issue and it may be passed on to Children Services for investigation.
