Calhoun County AL Jail basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 256-241-8030

This facility is for adult inmates.

The Calhoun County AL Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 400 W 8th St Anniston, AL which is operated locally by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Calhoun County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Anniston Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Calhoun County Jail is operated by the Sheriff of Calhoun County. The primary function of this institution is the maintenance of those individuals who must be held in custody pending disposition of their respective cases by the Courts. Generally, custody in this institution is not intended to be punitive. Most men and women incarcerated here have not been tried by the Courts and must be presumed innocent until such time as guilt has been determined by the law. Some of the inmates here have been tried and are sentenced to County and/or State inmates. Federal inmates are also housed in this institution. The jail has a normal capacity of about 370 inmates. The average daily population has increased from 180 to 430. Offenses vary from inmate to inmate, however, about 38% are charged with a probation violation or failure to appear, and approximately 25% are charged with some form of drug or alcohol offense.
The county jail is a multi-faceted environment. There is a full kitchen facility which prepares in excess of 400,000 meals per year. There is also a work-release center which acts as a temporary employment agency, a drug rehabilitation program, which provides over 4,000 hours of community service annually, a medical facility, and a separate women's wing. The corrections officers facilitate an inmate's stay and are tasked with, not only security, but providing transport services, mail delivery, visitation coordination, intake, food delivery, and general care.
