CDCR – California State Prison, Sacramento (SAC) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 916-985-8610
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at California State Prison – SAC located at 100 Prison Rd in Represa, CA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
California State Prison in Sacramento (SAC) is a multi-level institution which primarily houses maximum-security inmates. The original reason the prison was built was to house the most dangerous and difficult inmates in the state. Now the facility not only houses maximum security offenders but also has level I minimum security inmates. The facility also contains a stand-alone administrative segregation unit that is surrounded by a lethal electric fence.
Because the facility is adjacent to Folsom State Prison (FSP), both SAC and FSP share the mailing address in Represa, CA. When they were built, the maximum-security buildings of what is now SAC were considered an "addition" to FSP. The first FSP inmates were transferred to the addition on October 1, 1986.
CSP-SAC is primarily a Level IV institution, consisting of twenty- four (24) semi-autonomous 180 designed housing units and one (1) stand-alone Administrative Segregation Unit all surrounded by a Lethal Electrified Perimeter Fence. There is also a Level I Minimum Support Facility (MSF). CSP-SAC has three of the four levels of care identified by the Mental Health Services Delivery System, Correctional Clinical Case Management System, Enhanced Outpatient Program, and Mental Health Crisis Bed. CSP-SAC is on 882 acres, sharing this property with Folsom State Prison, Folsom Women’s Facility, and California Prison Industry Authority.
Only inmates who are considered a management problem/difficult inmate are housed in Ad Seg. Inmates can acquire a number of beneficial skills while incarcerated, many of which can be used to earn an honest living once they are released. CSP Sacramento offers vocational training in several fields, and work assignments that the inmates can participate in if they qualify.
