CDCR – Chuckawalla Valley State Prison (CVSP) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 760-922-5300
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Chuckawalla Valley State Prison located at 19025 Wiley’s Well Rd in Blythe, CA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Chuckawalla Valley State Prison (CVSP) is a CDCR state prison facility that incarcerates minimum to medium security inmates located in Blythe CA. Originally this facility was constructed to hold almost 2,000 inmates, it currently houses over 4,000. CVSP occupies approximately 125 acres, within 1735 state-owned acres in Riverside County.
CVSP is comprised of four Level II Non-Designated Programming Facility Yards and one Level I Non-Designated Programming Facility Yard. Therefore, general population inmates are allowed from their cells for most of the day, with the exception of lock-downs and during the count periods.
The facility has separate units and quarters for sex offenders, former gang members, and law enforcement who have been convicted themselves of a crime. The reason these population groups are held separately is for the safety and security of everyone at the institution, including those on administrative segregation.
CVSP maintains the operation of a firehouse, water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, the vehicle maintenance garage, recycling, and salvage program (RASP) for CVSP. In addition to the above, CVSP provides laundry services via the Prison Industry Authority (PIA) for CVSP. The firehouse is comprised of one fire chief; five fire captains and ten inmate firefighters. The firehouse responds to local mutual aid and provides coverage for CVSP and other nearby prisons. The fire department personnel provide training and certification for inmate firefighters to be prepared for job placement upon parole.
