CDCR – McCain Valley Conservation (Fire) Camp #21 basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 619-766-4393
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at McCain Valley Conservation Camp #21 located at 2550 McCain Valley Rd in Boulevard, CA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
McCain Valley Conservation Camp #21 was established in 1986, and is operated jointly with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire), and is comprised of both CDCR staff and CAL Fire. Since its inception, the Conservation Camp has evolved into a highly mobile workforce engaging in all forms of risk disaster mitigation. This includes, but is not limited to, pre-fire fuel management, including the development and maintenance of fire defense improvements and facilities. Also, the mission statement of McCain Valley Conservation Camp encompasses a labor force for conservation-related projects for local, state, and federal agencies.
In 2013 McCain Valley Conservation Camp assisted in controlling Border Fires encompassing 23,000 acres. Also, McCain Crews were sent on a 27 day out of county assignment to the RIM Fire in Yosemite National Park, thus saving California taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
This program provides convicted felons with the opportunity to give something back to California citizens while paying their debt to society.
In addition to the missions listed above, the Camp Administration is Charter Member of the Border Agency Fire Council (BAFC) and has been since its inception.
