The inmates housed at Mount Bullion Conservation Camp #39 located at 5730 Mt Bullion Access Rd
in Mariposa, CA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Camp History – Prior to October 2004 Mt. Bullion Camp was a Youth Camp. In October of 2004, Mount Bullion was converted to an Adult Conservation Camp. Many modifications were made to existing structures to accommodate the one hundred and ten (110) inmate capacity population. Mt. Bullion's fire protection responsibilities fall within the Cal Fire MMU Ranger district, this includes Mariposa, Merced and Madera Counties. Mt. Bullion is the only camp in the MMU Ranger District. In 2014 there were three major fires within the MMU Ranger District, the Hunter, Bridge, and Junction Fires. Mt. Bullion was utilized as a staging area during these incidents, meeting the needs of up to eighteen hand crew strike teams. The Cal Fire 69 Hour Fire Fighting Training is conducted at Mt. Bullion for the new seasonal Cal Fire, Fire Fighters. Cal Fire and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation have an excellent working relationship and have a lot of pride in the camp. Cal Fire and CDCR meet twice a week for an open discussion on safety and other issues concerning the smooth operation of the camp.

Inmate Programs – The Hobby Program runs at capacity with eighteen inmates involved. Our educational programs consist of the GED Program which meets three times a week. They have Coastline Community College courses with a variety of classes offered. College classes are usually offered in the fall and spring semesters.

Volunteer Programs – Inmates volunteer their time, hobby projects such as wood projects, jewelry, drawings and money in support of various holiday community improvement projects and fundraisers for the Mariposa Safe Families. Religious Services are attended with low to moderate attendance. Attendance for our annual inmates sponsored Christmas Program is at 45% of the inmate population. Mt. Bullion has a weekly AA/NA meeting with an average attendance of ten inmates. Inmates who attend twelve straight meetings receive a certificate of participation.

No cellphones, you will be searched before visiting. NO personal belongings. Persons under probation, parole, or other community corrections supervision must obtain the permission of both their individual supervising officer and the superintendent prior to a visit. Such visitation is not normally approved.

If the visitor is under the age of 18 and is a family member of the inmate, they must be accompanied by an adult family member or guardian to include a member of the inmate's extended family. If the visitor is under the age of 18 and is not a family member of the inmate, the minor visitor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
