CDCR – Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 209-984-5291
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Sierra Conservation Center located at 5100 O’Byrnes Ferry Rd in Jamestown, CA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Sierra Conservation Center is a minimum to a medium-security facility that is one of two facilities that gets to select and trains inmates into the conservation camp program. There are 20 of these conservation camps, which are located in the wilderness and have no walls, fences, etc. The purpose of this is to both rehabilitate the inmates and to train them in fire suppression so that when a wildfire starts the inmates can be quickly sent to the area to fight the blaze. It is important to note that the Sierra Conservation Center does not let all the inmates participate in the conservation camp program, inmates at the Center may receive training, but many of the inmates will never be selected for the camps, they will stay at the main prison facility to serve their time. The main facility has the same programs all prisons offer, an adult basic education, GED classes, and vocational training. Some of the vocational programs offer training in Carpentry, Masonry, Welding, Auto mechanic and body repair, and tech educations in computers and electronics.

CDCR – Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) – Parole Information
The primary mission of the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody inmates, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is one of only two prisons in the State responsible for the training and placement of male inmates in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers 20 male camps located from Central California to the Mexican border.
SCC functions as the center for training staff and inmates in firefighting techniques for the southern portion of California. The institution is separated into two dormitory type facilities for minimum and low-medium custody inmates. A separate high-medium custody facility is for Sensitive Needs Yard (SNY) placement.
Each of the 20 Conservation Camps is a self-contained "prison without walls." The camps are sited in rural or wilderness areas for fire suppression. Inmates assigned to camps are dispatched to fight wild land fires and other emergencies when needed and a variety of community work projects. This results in a tremendous cost savings to tax payers of the State of California.
SCC houses inmates designated by medical as low to medium risk, and identified by the Mental Health Services Delivery System as Correctional Clinical Case Management System or lower. Inmates at SCC are encouraged to attend education programs that include Adult Basic Education, General Educational Development programs, Career Technical Education in Computer Literacy, Building Maintenance, Carpentry, Masonry, Welding, Auto Body Repair, and Auto Mechanics/Engine Repair. A multitude of other voluntary programs that afford the inmates opportunities for self-improvement are available as well to include Alcoholic Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous, Veterans Incarcerated, Freedom and Choice, Victims Impact, Alternatives to Violence, Responsible Fatherhood, Responsible Fatherhood, 12 Steps, Conflict Resolution, Criminals and Gang Anonymous, Self-Awareness and Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, New Professionals, Leadership Development, Art and Healing, and Anger Management, Career Development, Arts Corrections, English as a Second Language, Al Anon, Veterans Support Group, Meditation.
