The Chaves County NM Juvenile Detention Center is a medium to low-security detention center located at 119 E 4th St Roswell, NM that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

The mission of the Chaves County Juvenile Detention Center is to provide safe and secure detention in a healthy environment for juveniles pending disposition and placement. Working with other community agencies and volunteers, we emphasize educational services, faith-based services and life skills development for the juveniles, while providing excellent customer service to the public and all participating agencies.

Regulations & Requirements

Incoming personal property: no incoming personal property will be accepted.
Releasing property: Property may be picked up Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Haircuts: Haircuts are offered twice a month, compliments of The Church on The Move.
Bonding: Per law, juveniles cannot be bonded out and can only be released by the court or their JPO.
Medication: This facility will notify parents to come in and sign a Medical Consent Form. This form is necessary in order for the facility to treat your juvenile for headaches, injuries, etc. If your juvenile is on medication please notify us and bring in the medication. Please let us know if there are any other medical problems.

The following questions are not permitted to be answered due to security:

When is my child getting out?
When is my child going to court?
When will my child be transported?

Juvenile Visitation Days

Regulations

Only parents/guardian or grandparents will be permitted to visit. Any other type of visit must be approved by administration.
Parents/grandparents will be asked to sign in and show identification. Step parents will have to show proof of marriage, sign in, and show identification. Guardians will have to show legal documentation that they have custody, sign in, and show identification.
1 visit per day is allowed. All visitors must come at the same time. No more than 3 people in a booth.
Time allowed to visit is approximately 15 minutes, depending on facility population. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times while in the facility.
Children are not allowed in the visitation booth. The lobby area is available for children or persons not permitted to visit juveniles. Smoking or taking pictures is not allowed. No cell phones, purses, or handbags allowed in the visitation booth.

Visitation Days

Sunday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
1 visit per day (4 visits total per week)
If you come at the last minute, your visit will be short.

After 3 days of no visits, the juvenile will be able to call on the following day. We accept calling cards when the juvenile is from another county.
