The Chenango County NY Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 279 Country Rd 46 Norwich, NY which is operated locally by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Chenango County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Norwich Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Correctional Facility has a maximum capacity of 133 inmates. It contains 5 Housing Units. Each housing unit contains its own day room, laundry, program room & exercise yard. The Corrections Division is the largest division in the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

Visitors are requested to phone the Correctional Facility to register for visitation
Phone registration will be from Mondy thru Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with the exception to county holidays.

Visitors must physically register for their assigned visitation The Registration and sign-in period begins at 8:00 am for the first visitation period. All visitors will register and sign in 15 minutes prior to the assigned visitation period. The actual visitation periods will begin immediately following the registration and continue until all visits are complete.
ALL VISITORS MUST SHOW A PHOTOGRAPH IDENTIFICATION CARD WITH PROOF OF THEIR AGE BEFORE THEY WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THIS FACILITY.
PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MAY ENTER WITHOUT PHOTO ID BUT MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN, WHO MUST REMAIN THE ENTIRE VISIT, AND CHILDREN MUST HAVE A BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO ENTER VISITATION ROOM.

- ID CARDS ISSUED BY A GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY
INMATES WILL BE ENTITLED TO HAVE TWO (2) VISITORS ON VISITATION DAYS. EACH INMATE WILL BE ALLOWED ONE (1) HOUR PER VISITATION DAY. (CONSISTENT WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE MINIMUM STANDARDS.)
Visitation Rules
You are allowed one short hug and kiss and the beginning and at the end of the visitation period when directed by the Visitation Officer.
- Petting or fondling is not permitted.
- There will be no touching during the visit.
- The inmate and visitor(s) will be seated in their designated seat.
- Children must remain seated with the visiting parent or guardian.
- Inmates may not pass or receive any item to any visitor.
- Inmates will visit with the visitor that came to visit them. There will be no visiting with another inmate's visitor.
- Inmates have the right to refuse to visit with anyone whom they do not wish to visit. The inmate will be asked to state to the intended visitor that they do not want to visit with them.
- Once visitation commences, the inmate and the visitor will remain for the full hour, unless otherwise directed by the Visitation Officer.
- You are required to follow all directions and orders given by the Visitation Officers.
- If the inmate or visitor is found in violation of any visitation regulation, the visit will be terminated.
THIS IS A SMOKE-FREE FACILITY. THERE WILL BE NO SMOKING ALLOWED.
ANY ITEMS FOUND IN AN INMATES POSSESSION DURING OR AFTER VISITATION WILL BE CONSIDERED CONTRABAND. A REPORT AND CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST THE INMATE (AND THE VISITOR IF APPLICABLE.)
Visitation Attire
All visitors shall adhere to a suitable dress code for visiting inmates in the Correctional Facility. The following list shall NOT be considered appropriate attire in a correctional environment.
- Low cut or revealing blouses that expose any portion of the breast.
- Tube tops.
- Any sleeveless shirts.
- Half-shirts- any shirt that doesn't reach the top of the pants.
- Skirts with a hemline higher than 3 inches above the knee.
- Dresses with slits that run farther than 3 inches above the knee.
- Shorts cannot be higher than 3 inches above the knee.
- Any "SEE-THRU" garment.
- Ripped or torn clothing.
- Excessive or oversized clothing.
- Large oversized clothing.
- Facility issued colored clothing.
- Hats or hooded garments.
A visitor will not be allowed to enter the facility if possessing any of the above items.
