The inmates housed at San Carlos Correctional located at 1410 W 13th St in Pueblo, CO are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
San Carlos Correctional Facility is a level V mixed custody state prison that can house 250 adult male inmates. This facility specializes in rehabilitating inmates who suffer from mental health problems, to the point where they can be sent to other facilities within the department of correction. Special treatment programs, care, and behavioral modifications are used to aid in the inmate's rehabilitation. Offenders here can obtain a GED or adult basic education through educational programs. Symptom and medication management, as well as coping skills, are taught at this institution. Illness, Anger, anxiety and stress management techniques are also taught to inmates.
