The Dona Ana County NM Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 1850 Cooper Loop Las Cruces, NM which is operated locally by the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Dona Ana County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Las Cruces Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

- Commissary – Inmates are allowed to purchase items from the commissary. Such items include personal hygiene, stamps and writing materials, certain clothing items, over-the-counter medications, certain foods and beverages, etc. Profits from commissary are used only for the purchase of program materials, services, recreational equipment and other items for inmates.

- Internal Workers – used for facility operations and maintenance within the secure perimeter of the detention facility
- External Workers – used for facility operations and maintenance, as well as work on public projects, outside the facility and under the direct supervision of an approved employee.

Library – Services are provided once every two weeks. Inmates are allowed to check out two books from a portable book cart.

Work Release – when approved by the courts, inmates may be released from incarceration so that they may continue to work while serving their sentences. They return to the detention facility upon completion of their work shifts.

Dona Ana County NM Detention Center – Visitation
Inmates are allowed one 30-minute visit per week from family or friends. Professional visits from attorneys, criminal justice system representatives, medical or mental health professionals are limited only to need.
VISITATION HOURS
- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Between 1:30 – 4:30 PM & 5:30 – 8:30 PM*
- Tuesday and Thursday: Between 5:30 – 9:30 PM*
* Note: The doors will close 30 minutes prior to the end of visitation hours. Visitors are allowed a half-hour from the time the doors close to complete their visit. Visitors must be logged in by the time the doors close in order to finish their visit by closing time. No facility visitation on County holidays.

There are no visits for areas B-2 & B-3.

- G-2 & 3: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30 – 4:30 PM & 5:30 – 8:30 PM*
- G-4: Tuesday 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
To reduce wait time at the facility, all facility visits may be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance through the Legacy Friends and Family website.

With this account, you will be able to schedule your visits at the facility, schedule online video visits that can be done at home with your entire family, and pay for prepaid calling.
If you do not have internet access, you may schedule your visits by coming to the detention center at least 48 hours in advance and schedule with facility staff, or by calling 575-647-7652 at least 48 hours in advance.
THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION DURING COUNTY OBSERVED HOLIDAYS
Visitors can check-in at the Reception desk for SHU, AB & Medical visits. All visitors can check-in at the East Visitation desk. Only 3 visitors are allowed. Regular visits will be video visitation.
Detainees are permitted one (1) thirty-minute visit per week. Three individuals may be present at this visit, and all individuals must show valid photo ID. Children under 18 years of age can show a birth certificate instead of a photo ID and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A valid photo ID is one that is issued by State or Federal Government of the U.S. or Mexico.
Nothing is permitted to pass between visitors and detainees during the visitation for any reason. Detention Center personnel are not permitted to pass anything to inmates or deliver verbal messages.

Facility Dress Code – Visitors must comply with the facility dress code, which is as follows:
- No halter tops, tank tops or A-undershirts, swimsuits, short skirts/dresses, low-cut necklines, or see-through clothing.
- Shorts must be no higher than two inches above the knee. Shorts cannot be cutoffs, tattered, torn or otherwise unserviceable. Shorts that exhibit excessive wear, tears or rips will not be allowed in the facility.
- No items of clothing with anything considered pornographic/sexually explicit and/or derogatory/inflammatory shall be allowed.
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
