The Emmet County MI Jail & Correctional Facility is a medium-security detention center located at 450 Bay St Petoskey, MI which is operated locally by the Emmet County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Emmet County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Petoskey Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Emmet County Correctional Facility currently has a capacity of 103 beds. The inmate population consists of male and female, sentenced and non-sentenced inmates, committed to the custody of the Sheriff for civil, a misdemeanor, or felony charges.
The correctional facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with staffing of a Jail Administrator, four sergeants, thirteen correction officers, and a variety of support staff and volunteers. Our primary goal is to run a secure facility that is safe for both staff and inmates. The correctional facility is governed by the Michigan Department of Corrections Administrative Rules for Jails.
