The FCI-McKean is a federal prison located at 6975 Rte 59 in Lewis Run, PA. This federal medium security prison is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to hold inmates who have been convicted to and sentenced for a federal crime through the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

The Federal Correctional Institution, McKean (FCI McKean) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Pennsylvania. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. An adjacent satellite prison camp houses minimum-security male offenders.
FCI McKean is located in northwest Pennsylvania between the towns of Bradford and Kane, 90 miles south of Buffalo, New York.
Background: FCI McKean was opened in 1989. The FCI is composed of 4 housing units. Each housing unit holds 312 inmates.
Notable inmates include former acting boss of the Colombo crime family Alphonse Persico (serving a life sentence for murder), Philadelphia politician Chaka Fattah (sentenced to 10 years for racketeering), actor Wesley Snipes (served two years for failing to file tax returns), and Major League baseball pitcher Denny McLain (served six years for money laundering, conspiracy, theft, and mail fraud).
Housing: Inmates are housed in two-person cells.
Health Services: Health services include medical and dental sick call, chronic care management for chronic and infectious diseases through enrollment in chronic care clinics for regular care, routine dental care, medical and dental emergency care for injuries and sudden illness, medications, age-appropriate preventive care to promote optimal health and functional status, restorative care to promote achievable functional status, long-term care, and end-of-life care. Inmates can request medical care through the submission of a sick call form. Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day.
Psychology Services: Psychology services include screening, assessment, and treatment of mental health problems, individual and/or group counseling, psycho-educational classes, self-help and supportive services, and referral to Health Services for medical treatment of mental illness. Inmates who are new have been previously identified as having mental health or drug abuse programming needs are scheduled for an interview with Psychology Services staff to review their history and identify their programming needs. Several psychological programs offered at FCI McKean include Anger Management, Emotional Self-Regulation, Criminal Thinking, and Seeking Safety. Inmates can request placement in these programs by submitting an Inmate Request to Staff form.
Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): FCI McKean does not house a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The camp houses a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). Both facilities offer the Drug Education Course and the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP).
Education Services: FCI McKean provides literacy, GED, and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Incentive awards are provided to recognize inmates making satisfactory progress and successfully completing the literacy (i.e., GED and ESL) program. Inmates may also receive incentives for progressing to various levels in the GED or ESL programs. Graduation ceremonies recognize GED, ESL, and Occupational Education completions. Adult Continuing Education (ACE) classes and a parenting program are also available. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.
Advanced Occupational Education: Advanced occupational education classes are offered at FCI McKean in Culinary Arts and NCCER Carpentry Level 1 & 2.
Apprenticeship: FCI McKean offers apprenticeships in Career Technician, Cook, Electrician, Housekeeping, and Teacher’s Aide.
Library Services: FCI McKean offers both leisure and law library to inmates. The leisure library offers magazines, newspapers, fiction, nonfiction, and reference books. An interlibrary loan program with local, state, and college libraries and available bookmobile services is also available. Inmates are provided access to legal materials and an opportunity to prepare legal documents through the use of the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library. A copying machine is available to reproduce materials needed for research. Electric typewriters are also available for inmate use.
Commissary: Inmates are allowed to spend $360.00 monthly in the commissary on their assigned shopping days. Clothing, shoes, electronics, food, drink mixes, and other items are available for purchase. Spending limits on certain items may apply.
Recreation Services: Leisure activities at FCI McKean include organized and informal games, sports, physical fitness, table games, hobby crafts, music programs, intramural activities, social and cultural organizations, and movies. Art activities include all paintings and sketches rendered in any of the usual media (e.g., oils, pastels, crayons, pencils, inks, and charcoal). Hobbycraft activities include ceramics, leatherwork, models, clay, mosaics, crochet, knitting, sculptures, woodworking, lapidary, and others. Wellness programs include screening, assessments, goal setting, fitness/nutrition prescriptions, and counseling.

Commissary List – In 1930 the Department of Justice authorized and established a Commissary at each Federal institution. The Commissary provides a bank type account for your money & for the procurement of articles not issued regularly as part of the institution administration. Funds deposited by your family, friends, or other sources are stored in your commissary account that we maintain.
