The FCI-Talladega is a federal prison located at 565 E Renfroe Rd in Talladega, AL. This federal medium security prison is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to hold inmates who have been convicted to and sentenced for a federal crime through the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

FCI Talladega was opened in 1979 and is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Alabama. The camp was opened in 1989. The facility is located approximately 50 miles from Birmingham, Alabama and 100 miles from Atlanta, Georgia. Notable inmates include Eric Ian Baker a member of the white supremacist group Aryan Nations; pleaded guilty to arson in connection with the 2008 firebombing of the Islamic Center of Columbia in Columbia, TN; two accomplices were also sentenced to prison; Clarence Heatley, the leader of the Preacher Crew, a New York City street gang; pleaded guilty in 1999 to racketeering and conspiracy for directing gang members to commit murders, narcotics trafficking, extortion, robberies and kidnappings in the Bronx and Manhattan; Cecil McCrory with his crime partner, former Mississippi state corrections director Chris Epps, ex-state legislator McCrory shook down for-profit prison operators and subcontractors for over a million dollars in bribes.
Notable incident includes a 1991 riot started by 121 Cuban inmates capturing hostages in a 10-day stand-off, in order to block their deportation back to Cuba. Approximately 200 specially trained agents converged on the cell building and used explosives to break open doors after hearing several loud explosions inside the section of the prison where the hostages were being held. All hostages were rescued, and all 121 inmates were taken into custody.
Housing: Inmates are housed in five different housing units in one or two-person cells. Inmates at the camp are housed in dormitories which are divided into two-person cells.
Health Services: Intake screening, routine medical and dental care, emergency medical care, physical examinations, and medications are available to the inmate population. Inmates must submit a sick call form in order to be evaluated for routine care needs. Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day.
Psychology Services: Psychological services include crisis counseling, suicide prevention, and individual and group counseling. Groups tend to include anger management, HIV/AIDS Awareness, and criminal thinking. Inmates can request program placement through the submission of an Inmate Request to Staff.
Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): FCI Talladega does not house a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The camp does house a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). Both facilities offer the Drug Education class, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
Education Services: FCI Talladega provides literacy, GED, and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Adult Continuing Education (ACE) classes taught by fellow inmates on a wide variety of topics and parenting programs are also available. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.
Advanced Occupational Education: FCI Talladega offers Electrical 1 & 2, Forklift, HVAC 2, Job Readiness, Mason 1, 2, & 3, NCEER Core, Office Technology, ServSafe, and Welding.
Vocational Training: FCI Talladega does not offer any vocational training aside from its advanced occupational education programs. The camp offers vocational training in ServSafe, Carpentry 1 & 2, and Forklift.
Apprenticeship: FCI Talladega offers apprenticeships in the following occupations: Baker, Barber, Carpentry, Cook, Dental Assistant, Electrician, HVAC, Landscape Tech, Masonry, Painter, Plumber, Quality Assurance, Sheet Metal, Teacher’s Aide, and Welding.
Library Services: A leisure and law library are available to inmates in the general population. The leisure library offers newspapers, fiction and nonfiction books, and magazines. The law library has the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library, a copy machine, and electric typewriters.
UNICOR: The FCI Talladega UNICOR facility produces furniture.
Commissary: Inmates are permitted to spend up to $360.00 per month on a wide variety of items. Such items include ice cream, radios, MP3 players, food, clothing, and more. Inmates are allowed to shop once a week on their designated shopping day.
Recreation Services: FCI Talladega and the camp offer indoor and outdoor recreational activities, including a hobbycraft program, leisure and fitness programs, intramural sports and a music program. The Recreation Department is open seven days a week.
