The Frederick County MD Detention Center (ICE) is a medium-security detention center located at 7300 Marcie’s Choice Ln Frederick, MD which is operated locally by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Frederick County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Frederick Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Detention Center is a full-service correctional facility offering all available alternatives to incarceration to include Pretrial Services, Home Detention, Alternative Sentencing/Community Service and Work Release, as well as traditional incarcerations and imprisonment for offenders either awaiting trial or sentenced to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

The Corrections Bureau is comprised of a total of 185 employees which include 125 correctional officers, 33 civilian staff, 3 county maintenance technicians, and 24 positions managed under contractual services to include state and federal grants. This does not include over 150 estimated volunteers who provide valuable services and programs to the incarcerated and community-based offender population.

If you need to get in touch with a detainee to leave an urgent message, you must call (301) 600-2550 and leave the detainee’s full name, alien registration number and your name and telephone number where you can be reached. The detainee will be given your message.

Registration will begin one-half hour prior to the start of each visitation period and conclude one-half hour prior to the end of each visitation period.

All visitors must have photo identification and proof of age and be properly registered prior to entry into the visiting area. Visitors under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian (unless the visitor is the inmate’s spouse). All inmates are allowed one (1) – thirty (30) minute visit per week. A week begins Sunday and ends Saturday. You must terminate the visit as directed by Corrections Staff. The maximum number of visitors is four (4).

Failure to follow the directions of Corrections Staff may result in the termination of your visitation privileges.

Visitor’s Responsibilities
• No animals are permitted on Detention Center property or secured in vehicles.
• The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office utilizes Drug Detection Canines.
• No bags are allowed into the visitation area. They must be secured in your vehicle or lockers in the visitation lobby.
• All visitors are subject to a random search of personal items and clothing.
• All visitors’ vehicles are subject to search.
• Any visitor attempting to introduce contraband into the facility will be detained pending investigation by Law Enforcement.
• Any visitor may be subject to subsequent arrest and criminal charges for attempting to introduce contraband.
• Inappropriate behavior or attire could result in termination of your visitation privileges.

Detainees are allotted one hour for visitation. More time may be authorized by the Assistant Warden for family members traveling significant distances dependent upon the number of visitors and staff availability. A maximum of two adults and two children may visit at any one time. This regulation will be interpreted flexibly and is subject to exceptions.
To ensure adequate time to process visitors through security, all visitors must arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled visit time.

Adult visitors must present a valid, verifiable government-issued identification card to enter the facility.

Minors who are visiting the facility must be accompanied by an adult guardian (18 years or older). Minors must not be left unaccompanied in the waiting room, visiting room or any other area.

Attorney Visits

Legal representatives of detainees are authorized to visit their clients during the following hours:

Attorneys and/or paralegals may visit detainees seven days a week 24 hours a day including holidays.

A list of pro bono (free) legal organizations will be posted in all detainee housing units and other appropriate areas. This list shall be updated quarterly. If a detainee wishes to see a representative or paralegal from that organization, it is the detainee’s responsibility to contact them for an appointment.

Consular Visits

Consular officials may meet with their detained nationals at any time. It is requested that prior arrangements be made with the ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer to the extent possible, and that consular officials bring appropriate credentials when they come to the facility. Clergy Visits

Clergy may visit detainees at any time, but must make prior arrangements with the Chaplain’s Office.

Visiting Restrictions

All family or other social visits are Non-contact.
No firearms or weapons of any kind are permitted in the facility.
If visitors are or appear to be intoxicated, visitation will not be allowed.
All visitors are subject to search while in the facility.
Visitors are not allowed to pass or attempt to pass any items to detainees.
Visitors are not allowed to carry any items into the visitation area.

Search Procedures (prior to or during all visitations)

All individuals requesting admittance to the facility or the visitation area are subject to a pat-down search of their person, an inspection of their belongings, and a metal scan search. Individuals refusing to cooperate with a reasonable search will not be admitted. No firearms or weapons of any kind are permitted. No electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, radios, etc.) are permitted in the secure areas of this facility.
