This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Long State Prison located at 1434 US Hwy 84 E in Ludowici, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Long State Prison is a medium-security institution for about 230 adult male inmates that are housed in four large open dormitories with bunk beds. Inmates who are eligible can participate in work details that offer labor support for the surrounding counties. Inmates are encouraged to participate in courses to learn to read, earn an adult basic education and get a GED. Religious programs, including worship/prayer and bible study, are offered by the Chaplains office. Counseling for inmates helps them to achieve behavioral modification and prepares inmates for re-entry into society. Vocational skills taught at Long State Prison include culinary arts, wastewater treatment, custodial and building maintenance, landscaping, auto repair, forklift operator, and basic computer courses.

MISSION – Ensure public safety and effectively house offenders while operating a safe and secure facility. Provides general labor and courtesy details to surrounding counties. Offers academic, vocational and on-the-job training (OJT) programs, along with cognitive behavior groups and re-entry classes to afford offenders the opportunity to enter back into society with the tools needed to become a productive citizen, thus reducing recidivism.

HOUSING – Four open dormitories with bunk beds housing 57 in each dorm. We also have four Isolation and Segregation cells. Smith State Prison is host facility. This facility also houses a Fire Station.
