This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Rutledge State Prison located at 7175 Manor Rd in Columbus, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Rutledge State Prison is a medium-security institution that can incarcerate up to 640 adult male inmates. Inmates in the general population are held in two-man cells. There are six separate living units within the institution in addition to this, there is a medical and mental health unit as well as a segregation unit. Inmates can work both on and off institutional grounds in landscaping and maintenance, laundry, and the cafeteria. Inmates can earn their GED, get an adult basic education and expand their reading skills while incarcerated. Counseling is available for a multitude of mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia. Substance abuse treatment and anger management counseling are also available. Group therapy and support for inmates who are serving life sentences have helped change the behavior of many inmates.
MISSION – Rutledge State Prison along with the Department of Corrections creates a safer Georgia by effectively managing offenders and providing opportunities for positive change. Host facility for Columbus & Charles D. Hudson Transitional Centers.
HOUSING – There are six living units, each containing four pods and each pod contains 12 two-man cells. There are also 30 beds in the dayrooms, 32 isolation/segregation beds, and two beds in the medical section for Mental Health Observation. This facility also houses a C.E.R.T. Team and a Tactical Squad.
WORK DETAILS – Work details include outside grounds & maintenance, food service & orderly jobs at the Columbus Transitional Center and several in-house support details.

VISITATION DAYS / HOURS:
- Inmates with last names beginning with A-K: Saturdays 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM
- Inmates with last names beginning with L-Z: Sundays 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM
- Visitation will be open to all visitors from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM on state holidays
The above-stated schedule will rotate approximately every 90 days, please check with the facility to confirm visitation hours.
