The inmates housed at Walker State Prison located at 97 Kevin Ln in Rock Spring, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Walker State Prison is located in Rock Spring Georgia. It is a medium security institution that incarcerates adult males who have committed felonies. Currently the capacity of this facility is about 444. Inmates are housed in twelve open dormitories. This facility is also responsible for housing about 200 probation violators. A residential substance abuse treatment program known as RSAT offers individual and group therapies for those who suffer from addiction. Vocational opportunities include working in laundry, the warehouse, maintenance, as an automotive mechanic, culinary arts, barbering, and metal fabrication. Some inmates from Walker State Prison are selected to work outside of the institution in a supervised work detail for various county agencies. Inmates can also participate in religiousactivities including worship and prayer offered by the Chaplains office.
MISSION – Specially designated Faith & Character Based prison that provides a pro-social, programmatic environment for change to those offenders who voluntarily request to participate in the program. Fosters moral character development and cultivates pluralistic spiritual enrichment.
HOUSING – Consists of 12 open dormitories, 10 housing from 50 to 74 offenders with one housing nine incentive offenders. Houses up to 200 probation RSAT male detainees in the NW RSAT center. Eight offenders are housed at the Fire Hall. This facility also houses a Fire Station.
