This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Whitworth Women’s Detention located at 414 Valley Hart Rd in Hartwell, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

MISSION – Ensure public safety and effectively house female offenders while operating a safe and secure facility. In addition: house female offenders that are medium and minimum security; and house Level II outpatient Mental Health offenders.

HOUSING – Seven open dormitories with 436 beds; and six (6) segregation/isolation cells.

WORK DETAILS – Outside work details include assignments for Hart, Elbert, & Madison Counties; the Cities of Elberton, Lavonia, Royston, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources.

• Academic: General Education Diploma, Literacy Remedial, Adult Basic Education
• Counseling: Moral Recognition Therapy, Matrix, Relapse Group, Motivation for Change, Re-Entry, Active Parenting, Family Violence
• Recreation: General Recreation
• Religious Activities: Various Worship Services, Bible Study
• Vocational/OJT: Custodial Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Laundry, Building Maintenance Repair, Food Preparation, Baker, Cook Apprentice, and Kitchen Helper
