The Georgetown County SC Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 2394 Brown’s Ferry Rd
PO Drawer 421270 Georgetown, SC which is operated locally by the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Georgetown County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Georgetown Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center houses all persons arrested in Georgetown County by local law enforcement. The Detention Center was opened in March 1996 and has a capacity to house 212 inmates. The Detention Center Administrator and Detention Center Command Staff manage the Detention Center as directed by the Sheriff. Forty-nine employees including 42 correctional officers staff the GCSO Detention Center. The GCSO Detention Center is responsible for the following:
- Booking and housing all persons arrested in Georgetown County
- Housing state and federal prisoners assigned to the GCSO Detention Center
- Fingerprinting and photographing all prisoners brought to the GCSO Detention Center
- Conducting background checks on all prisoners
- Providing clothing, feeding and medical service to all prisoners
- Managing inmate labor working for county agencies
- Managing inmates who pick up litter along roadways throughout the county
- Detention Center serves as the County’s Back Up Emergency Operations Center during hurricanes.
- Providing assistance to other GCSO Units as needed
