The Gila County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1100 South St PO Box 311 Globe, AZ which is operated locally by the Gila County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Gila County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Globe Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office recognizes the importance and need to make funds available to inmates. For your ease and convenience, the Sheriff's Office Jail offers several ways to deposit money into inmate accounts.

Jail Visitation Lobby Window
Only money orders or cashier's check deposits for inmate accounts may be dropped off at the Jail Visitation Lobby Window at either the Globe or Payson area Jail facilities. Money for Inmate Accounts can be deposited 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. There are no fees for this service. Cash will NOT be accepted. -
U.S. Mail
You may send cashiers checks or money orders via U.S. mail to: Gila County Jail, P.O. Box 311, Globe, AZ 85502. Please write "Attention Property Master" on outside of envelope. -
No personal checks or debit/credit cards are accepted.
Instructions for Money Deposits – Jail Visitation Lobby Window
Deposits will be accepted at the Jail Visitation Lobby Window 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in adhering to these rules for processing of inmate funds:
- Only money orders or cashier's check will be accepted. There is no limit to the amount that may be deposited at the Jail Visitation Lobby Window. Cash will NOT be accepted.
- All deposits require the depositor to show a valid government issued photo ID, i.e., driver's license, DES ID card, Arizona ID card, Military ID card, Passport, etc.
- No personal checks or debit/credit cards are accepted.
Note: It is the responsibility of the depositor to ensure all information is correct on the receipt before leaving the Jail.
There are no fees for this service.
Inmate Commissary
The Gila County Sheriff's Office Jail operates and manages its own Inmate Commissary Store. The profits from commissary sales and telephone use are used to purchase items used by the inmates.
Inmates cannot have clothing or other items dropped off to them. Inmates can purchase T-shirts, underwear, socks as well as writing paper, stamps, envelopes, snacks and hygiene items through the Jail Commissary.
Clothing & Personal Property
All personal property will be sealed when an inmate is booked into the Jail and will remain sealed until they are released. Property placed into the inmate's property bin (with the exception of the inmate's clothing) during incarceration can be released to an outside party upon an inmate's written request.
Inmates may request to have trial clothing dropped off for trial proceedings, once approved, trial clothing will be provided to the inmate until the completion of their trial.
Serving an Out-of-County Sentence
There is a housing fee of $175.00 for the first day and $90.00 each day thereafter for serving an out-of-county sentence at the Gila County Jail Facilities. The entire amount for the length of the sentence is due upon arrival. Please call (928) 402-4258, in advance, for more information.
Working Outside the Jail Facility while serving a Sentence
Permission to work outside the Jail Facility while in custody is dependent upon the approval of Inmate Classification. If you are serving a sentence and are approved for the Work Release Program, there is a fee of $59.50 per week. This amount must be paid the Sunday previous to the work week, please be advised there are no partial week payments allowed.
All Personal Property Releases are conducted at the Gila County Jail Facilities, please keep the following in mind concerning Personal Property Releases:
- Property releases are completed daily.
- Any inmate sentenced to the Department of Corrections must have all property released at the time of sentencing.
- The recipient must present a valid government issued photo ID, i.e., driver's license, DES ID card, Arizona ID card, Military ID card, Passport, etc., before receiving property.
- Any commissary items not picked up within seventy-two (72) hours of the inmate's transfer will be disposed of.
- Any personal property not picked up within thirty (30) days of the inmate's transfer or release will be disposed of.
Money Releases
Funds from an inmate account may be released to a third party. Prior to releasing any funds, the inmate must submit a Inmate Request Form authorizing the release of funds from his/her account. The funds released from the Inmate Account will be in the form of a check payable to the third party as requested by the inmate.
- The recipient must present a valid government issued photo ID, i.e., driver's license, DES ID card, Arizona ID card, Military ID card, Passport, etc., before receiving released funds.
- Any funds in an inmate's account will be released in the form of a check made payable to the inmate upon his/her release.
- Fund transfers from one inmate account to another inmate account are not permitted.
All Inmates will have access to services provided by the United States Postal Service to send and receive legal mail, general correspondence, and publications. Please note that all publications must be approved by Jail Supervision.
Contraband and material which constitutes a threat to the safety, security, or order of the Gila County Jail shall be prohibited. Such items will be processed in accordance with office policy.

All incoming correspondence, with the exception of legal mail, will be searched.
Unacceptable mail includes:
- Mail with any biohazards, including perfumes or lipstick
- Mail depicting nudity, weapons, or gang references
- Mail with any metal, plastics or wrappings
- Mail that contains stickers or confetti
Legal Mail
- All legal mail must be sent in pre-printed/pre-stamped postage envelopes or metered postage.
- Legal mail should not be bound, stapled, or fastened in any manner as inmates are prohibited from possessing such items.
Postal Guidelines
- Postal services are provided Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
- All mail coming into and leaving the facility must be by U.S. Mail.
- Inmates may receive pictures by U.S. Mail. Pictures may be mailed in an envelope addressed to the Gila County Jail with the inmate's full name listed. "Attention Property Master" must be clearly marked on the front of the envelope, otherwise the envelope will be returned to sender.
- Inmates may receive publications, sent directly from the publisher, only with prior approval by Jail Supervision.
- All inmate to inmate mail is prohibited.

Please note: Inmates are eligible for visitation after their initial appearance before a Judge or Magistrate, unless he/she is being released from custody.
Inmate Visitation at the Globe Jail Facility is as follows:

Visitation is limited to 2 hours per inmate per week. All active visits will be terminated at 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The schedule above will be followed, unless the inmate's housing unit or the facility is in lockdown or in the event of a Jail Facility emergency.
Professional visits pertain to attorneys or other approved legal visitors, law enforcement officials, clergy and program representatives. - Additional Identification Requirements: In addition to a valid government picture identification, professional visitors may be asked to present professional credentials at the time of the visit such as a Arizona State Bar Association identification card, Provider identification card, law enforcement credentials, private investigator's license, interpreter certification card, etc.
Visitation Requirements
- Identification: All visitors must have a valid government picture identification with date of birth, i.e., driver's license, DES ID card, Arizona ID card, Military ID card, Passport, etc.
- Age Requirements: No one under the age of 18 may visit an inmate unless accompanied by an adult.
- Any person who has been in the custody of the Gila County Jail within the past six (6) months will not be granted visitation.
All visitors arriving for inmate visitation must be properly dressed. Visitors wearing any clothing or accessories that are deemed inappropriate will not be permitted visitation. The following dress code will be strictly enforced:
- All clothing shall be clean and worn in the proper manner. Proper undergarments must be worn.
- Sheer, see-through and open-netted clothing is prohibited.
- Tank (muscle), tube, halter, strapless or spaghetti strap dresses and tops are prohibited.
- Tops that allow display of bare midriff, mesh clothing, body suits and swim suits are prohibited.
- Clothing with inappropriate language (profanity), pictures, symbols/designs is prohibited.
The Gila County Sheriff's Office Jail Facilities reserve the right to discontinue any visit at any time. Additionally, all visitation will be suspended in the event of a Jail Facility emergency.
