The Gilmer County Adult Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 106 Brett Dickey Memorial Dr Ellijay, GA which is operated locally by the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Gilmer County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Ellijay Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Gilmer County Adult Detention Center – Inmate Handbook
The Gilmer County Adult Detention Center Division consists of 27 uniformed officers that provide security and inmate services.
The Adult Detention Center staff work twelve-hour rotating shifts.
The facility also includes a fully equipped kitchen where meals are prepared for the inmates. Inmates under the supervision of Jail staff prepare the meals. Supervised inmates handle all building maintenance, laundry, cleaning, etc., in-house.

Visitation Rules
- Visits will be 30 minutes per inmate
- Visitors must be on inmates list of visitors
- No more than five (5) names are allowed on inmates list
- All visitors must show valid picture I.D.
- No more than three (3) visitors allowed per inmate
- There will be only one (1) visit per inmate per scheduled day
- Visitation is on a first come first served basis. Once the slots are filled there will be no exceptions, unless ordered by the Detention Captain.
- Former inmates must wait for a period of 12 weeks (60 business days) before they will be allowed to visit an inmate
